There u go drivers we got us a cozy 90 k a year Driver or mgmt who dosent give a #### about new drivers coming in sitting hanging by the phone. Long as he makes his money the rest of you can starve. Get my point, that's what's gonna bring ABF down not people like me.

 

There's nothing that drivers can do to keep a company going if the company doesn't want to.
That doesn't mean that drivers shouldn't care and it doesn't mean that they shouldn't try to do a good job. It's just that, beyond a certain point, the drivers don't much matter any more.
ABF will do exactly what other carriers before them have done. They'll change their business model, they'll change their name, they'll get rid of the union, and continue on if they can.
If they can't make it they'll go the way of PIE, CF, and all the rest of the freight giants. Gone, out of business, just a coffee shop topic of conversation and some memories.
The executives will get their golden parachute and the drivers will get a chance to explore new job opportunities.

 

I know who you are, the guy that doesn't know how to use the quote thing and quotes himself but responds to others. And going by those last couple ramblings, I think that guy hit it on the head, what's really going on???

Good to hear that your doing so well.

Up here in these parts, if you're looking to get in to ABF, provided that you pass all the extensive and thoroughly double-checked background checks (done with such devotion, precision and.....love, by those couple of nice ladies down Oklahoma way), you're going to work part time for at least a year (and have almost the entire months of December, January and February off).

Even if you're finally able to get through all the sporadic income and inconsistent hours (start 11 P.M then start 2 A.M. then start 9 A.M. then start 6 P.M.....then... no work at all, sometimes for weeks), then those whopping $24 bucks an hour max is truly a pot o' gold.

Yeah, I can see a driver making $90,000 a year on $24 bucks an hour.

It cracks me up to think sometimes that I actually used to work for this company...the company I'd thought was THE job to have in LTL back when I lived in Portland, OR and used to go in and out of their terminal on occasion working for other smaller outfits. I was in awe of the fact that some of these guys got paid $24-25/hr plus OT after 8 when I was only making $15-18/hr. Seemed like a lot of money back then. Nowadays it really doesn't. When you realize you can make $3000 a week running your own truck these jobs where you go kill yourself all week for $1200 to make somebody else rich just seem terrible.

 

I don't know of any LTL companies starting at $24-25 an hour especially with OT after 8 hours.

As for owning your own truck....many go under and lose their trucks. Being an owner operator is far from being a for sure thing....unless you're a broker of course.
