Well, it’s quite obvious no one is answering the phones at the mothership. Sitting home having coffee and I get a load assignment for tomorrow picking up at the sugar plant after I get empty in Homestead. Called in a half dozen times with no answer.

Now I will go to the truck and let them know via QC that I’ll gladly do the load, on the 13th when hometime is over.

Ran out of hours last night so I had to drive the 200 miles back to the yard this morning. Got a full day of holiday work day out of it. Now cooling my heels in a hotel room. This old man is tired....

Yeah, I figured there would have been more trucks going there on that one being a new store being built, one of them cases where you gotta get there early the day before and park on property if allowed cuz otherwise it will be an all day affair. Hopefully you get unloaded in a timely manner though.

I tried calling the office too yesterday and no answer either, figured they gave everyone the day off and told them work from home. Got my reload early yesterday morning. Bobtail to New Castle BH for a load to CO. I had home time scheduled for Thursday through Tuesday and that is why I tried calling. I decided to take the load and reschedule home time being miles have been crappy lately anyway. Figured they would probably deadhead me to Colton after being that is what they always do when I take a reefer west. In the almost four years Ive been here they have only reloaded me twice with a reefer out west. Doesn't matter where Im at with the reefer out west, always been a deadhead to Colton to drop at Walmart. Be surprised if they reload me in CO with this reefer.

Well now, just as I was getting into the groove of my hometime, feeling good about all the pool days coming up, and just having an overall relaxing, stress free morning, enjoying my coffee on the patio, I get a phone call from an unknown Richmond phone number. Thinking that it might be someone in the office, and not in any mood whatsoever to do a living soul any type of favor, I answered it. As it turned out, it was my new DM calling to introduce himself to me. I was so blindsided, I didn’t even hear or remember what his name is/was.

At that moment, the thoughts, emotions and all the peace, quiet and tranquility I was enjoying completely left my body. All I remember telling him was that he now has become my 17th DM in the 9+ years working here, and that like I’ve told the previous 10 DM’s, I’m not putting your info in my phone. It’ll be put in my little book with perforated edges that easily tear out when he moves on, because as history shows, you’ll be gone in less then a year.

I’m pissed, extremely pissed. I don’t care that they’ve hired yet another DM to save the Abilene planet, I care that it’s always handled in such an unprofessional way. I couldn’t even rate a phone call from my current DM whose actually become quite good at DM’ing.

I have a decision to make. My wife and I are going to Greece for 3 weeks in September. If I get on here and write that I’ve taken my vacation early, I’m sure you all can figure out why.

I hope this change works out for the good. If not, well, the vacation will still be on, but I might be making a change. I just hope at the moment, it doesn’t turn into a fiasco, on their part, my part is simple.
