I have a CDL B and right now I drive school buses. My last DOT physical was Sept. 2011 and is good for one year (I'm not sure if that's the bus companies rule or DOT because it's for a bus driver job).

Will it be good for another year if I go for my CDL A? Would I have to take it over again for training?

This is probably a dumb question but it stumped me. lol

You will need another one after Sept 2012.
Is there some medical reason for the one year?
Most are two years if everything is good.
Either way, you need to be retested after that one expires.
Good Luck, Welcome to the Jungle.

A lot of companies will want you to do one for them no matter how recent you got one.

I guess it was the bus company. Everyone at work has to have one done once a year.
It looks like I'll have to ask this question when I go to school.

Thanks for your replies! You guys are pretty welcoming around here. :)

I had a DOT physical 3 months before I went to orientation and they still made me get a new physical.

Yeah same thing happened to me. I'm sure it happens to a lot of people as most companies want you to go to their doctor.

Same thing here. Had a DOT physical and had to get a new one done by JBS three weeks later.

Every time you start a new job, in general, you'll get a new physical by a doctor the trucking company trusts.

I just paid $200 to get a physical so I could get a CDL permit to take to the Academy where the first day I had to get a physical. I think everyone simply wants a piece of the pie. Between Doctors, Lawyers, and Taxes, this industry is picking our pockets!

The exam run from simple to correct.
Some grant a card if you walk in, and can see and hear.
Companies want to be sure you actually pass a real exam.
Look at some of the drivers out there and you have to realize some doctors will pass anybody.
I have never found a company that didn't pay for it if they required a fresh card.
