My name is Mike and I have been a owner operator for over 15 years with my own operating authority. I have owned kenworth, Peterbilt and Western Star. The Kenworth has been the very worse truck I have ever owned. IT HAS A paccar motor in it and has cost me more down time and money out of pocket then all the other trucks combined. I have tried to get some help because of all the down time and loss of revenue but have been told take my business elsewhere by the big shots at the corporate level. I ju St wanted to warn the owner operator about Paccar as they do not care about the owner operator any more as they did in the past.

Buy pre-07 trucks or gliders with pre-04 engines. I got mine for $10K was 715k miles on it. Now marking 750K miles on it. It's been a year we placed that truck back on the road. It was absent from the road for 4 years.

paccar not good for O/O. I would prefer cummins for new pete and KW.

Glider ftw ...

Yea glider, thats a shame, I hear the paccar is actually a great engine. Sounds like your not getting support at the dealer level.

The red boat anchor ain't much better..........I was at my kw dealer this week. A nine bay shop..... 4 bays had mx trucks with emissions problems...... -
I have a 13 t660 with the paccar engine. Surprise, exhaust after treatment is supplied by cummins. A lot of the parts on mine are stamped cummins eng company. Knock on wood my trk is doing very well and have had very few issues in the 370,000 +miles on trk. Must be the dealer because i get excellent support from my local kw dealer. Averaging 7+ mpg driving it pretty hard. Had dpf filter service, def service and egr cooler flushed and overhead set at 200k . Paccar is recommending egr cooler flush during the dpf service because of carbon build up and overheating egr cooler and leaks. They soak it in a solution to decarbon it. Always been a yellow motor fan, but so far i'm loving my paccar engine. Not as snappy on throttle response as the cat engine, but does deliver power in a smooth linear fashion . Coming up on 400k so will be time for 2nd dpf service soon. Although the overhead adjustment needs to be done every 120-140,000 mi it's easy to do if mechanically inclined. Takes me about 3 hrs at a leisurely pace. Exhaust valves have a tendency to tighten up. Other than that been a great engine and truck.
MrHarris504 Thanks this. -
At least a red motor can pull a hill somewhat decent, I don't even think a Paccar motor would make a good boat anchor.
lovesthedrive Thanks this.
