From my experience, they do whatever possible to get their drivers home on the weekends with trailer swaps, etc. My first year with them was hung out 13 weekends. This year 4 times, one of which i asked to be routed to Wisconsin to spend a weekend with my parents so basically 3 times hung out this year.
"home on weekends" sometimes you get home friday night, sometimes saturday morning and sometimes, not until the following weekend. or the one after that. You are allowed 150 miles out of route to go home for the weekend. If you're held out over the weekend, the next weekend, youre allowed 250 miles out of route to get home.
As far as how long are you at home, once again, that depends on where your monday delivery is compared to where you live. ie. last weekend, got home late friday nite, truck was parked 35.5 hours, then off to plainview, mn from louisville, ky. This week, got home last nite thursday nite at 9 pm central time with a load of particle board that delivers monday in new jersey, over 700 miles from louisville, ky. so will have to leave out sunday to drive, break, drive, and deliver.
If you get nothing else out of my reply remember this...YOU WILL NOT GET HOME EVERY WEEKEND. Too many people read an advertisement for a company that reads, "Home weekends" and interprets that as "You will get home every weekend" NO ONE AT MAVERICK WILL EVER TELL YOU YOU WILL GET HOME EVERY WEEKEND.
last weeks miles, 2662. This weeks miles 2174 but home on thursday nite. avg for me i'd say would be 2400. THATS AN AVERAGE. one week might be less, one week might be more.
Give recruiting a call. You're in a good area. I'm sure you have more questions than the ones you asked above and they will be happy to answer them. Good luck and hope to see you out there in a Maroon truck soon.Fratsit Thanks this. -
only thing i know about glass is its more fragile than wood, steel and other which is what we haul in the US Flatbed division.

Hi I'm 25 years old I've been around trucks since I was a kid and always loved being around them, after leaving the Marine Corps I've done several different jobs but I love driving the most even though it was not a Big Rig I left my last job which was the driving job to college in JAN but i think I'm going to drop the classes tomorrow because all I can think about is how much I miss driving I guess it's in my blood.
I live in Lexington KY and want to do flatbed work. I do not have my CDL but I've been all over this website looking at different companies. The best flatbed companies I've read about was TMC and Maverick. I followed the TMC forum long enough to see that a shiny Pete doesn't pay your bills...LOL. I saw on Maverick's website they have a program for students but I couldn't find anything about their pay scale. -
Make a call to Maverick. Last time I talked to them they are not taking trainees. 6 months was the needed experience.
They just haven't changed their website. There is rumors they will go back in the future.
Check out BTC, Builders Transport. They aren't taking students right now. The recruiter said "late February." I guess they don't want a rookie driving in the winter weather. And no automatics. I felt at ease talking to the recruiter. No thinking it was a snow job. -
yea i was reading up on BTC hadn't checked them out before but read about them on another Maverick forum thought I look them up seems like a good company so far

I was approved for Maverick's student program today, 01/13/10. So, Maverick is taking students. Yay Me! Swift, PAM and Werner are all offering too. Boy, that's a no brainer. Maverick all the way!
I called BTC first thing when Arrow crapped out on me. (Only had 77days with arrow. Most companies want 90days to skip their student program.) BTC said to call back end of January. Same with McElroy. That's for students, you guys with experience of course can apply with everyone. IF BTC were to start taking students again, that would be a tough call. I live just outside B'ham and BTC has a yard here.
Maverick: $500 orientation (students may be $450?)/ $450wk training, up to 6wks with trainer / .31-.36cpm +.04-.07cpm raise after 6mo.
BTC: $300wk training, 4wks manditory with trainer/ .35cpm starting, .38cpm after 1yr / $25 tarp pay / Orientation - 3days class/2days load securement / $50wk Tuition Reimbursement pending miles driven -
