Hi everybody, long time, no opinion .......
I wanted to weigh in on the card debate. I know, for most of you, this is old news, since obviously, you are computer literate. There are very many drivers, that are positively terrified of any computer at all.
Using the drivers kiosk is really easy and there is usually someone around to give you a hand.
So about the card: We keep the PFJ cards in the store, so all you have to do is ask for one. If you had a registered card already and just want to replace it, it's super easy, since your info is already in there. We just add a new card to your excisting account. It is also very simple to transfer points and showers from old to new, so you won't lose anything. If your card is getting worn, by all means get a new one. Chances are, it won't scan at the pump and you will lose out on points. Registering your card (new or old) will extend your benefits, extend the life of showers, put you in the coffee/soda club and get you coupons for dollars off of food, water and stuff. Also you can have a manager register your card for "pump start". It will kick in after you have fueled 500 gallons with your loyalty card. After you have established your credibility with the 500 gallons of fuel, you will be able to use it to open the pump and come in after, to pay.
On a side note, sometimes drivers don't have showers on their card, because they expired. Just a suggestion to help a fellow driver out. If someone needs a shower and you are getting one as well, make it a team shower. It only takes off points for one and won't cost you anything. So you guys need to talk to each other. Maybe a little give and take will stretch your points for you. Just saying........
One final thing, totally off the subject. If your cards don't work at the fuel island and you call inside demanding we turn on the pump for you, well we can't. We have to have payment of some sort first. That's the computer set-up. Getting mad, cursing and slamming the phone down on our ears, isn't going to change that. You will still have to come inside and possibly face the very person you were just rude to or go somewhere else. So make sure you are registering your card for pump start and use it every time, to get to that 500 gallon mark and use it to open the pump. Thanks for letting me have my say and I hope you all have a nice night.
About the PFJ card.....
yeah slamming the phone down on your ear can be painful, god only knows the dozens of times i have seen drivers do this. what may be "irksome" to many drivers is what is sometimes known as an inconvenience to walk in, give you a credit card or cash, go back out, pump, go back in, go back out, park the truck, go back in...
why that's just TOO MUCH work, all that walking...!!!
drivers get irritated from the road, for ALL the reasons out there, so i will NOT list them here. when they come off the road, they DO NOT WANT MORE DIFFICULT TIMES dealing with credit cards that do not scan, walking needlessly and frankly, rude and ignorant fuel desk employee's in which I HAVE BEEN a victim of when I WAS AS POLITE as possible...sometimes fuel desk employees' get so much crap FROM drivers, that YOU PEOPLE CARRY IT OVER TO THE NEXT PERSON, now DO NOT SAY NO to this as i said, i was a VICTIM of such behavior form many a fuel desk personnel....!!!
you people at the fuel desk MUST TAKE EACH person as he/she comes in, and "leave your attitude" at the last one and START FRESH all over again with the NEXT customer......
so you know, "it's a 2 way street"......
you DO NOT DESERVE a rude driver in your face, this is true, but do you know the bad day or the BS he/she went through up to that point, and now the credit card or whatever else isn't working right..?? do we have control over what OUR COMPANIES do or don't do..???
no more than YOU DO at YOUR company..
but does a fresh arrival driver DESERVE the fuel desk person to be all hot and bothered, because YOU HAD just dealt with an belligerent or rude or foul mouthed driver..??
NO to that too....!!!!
but thanks for your posting, and for letting ME have MY say as well.....
what really gets me is when using a credit card and it only lets you pump 150 dollars at a time. i have been to some stations that it was 75 dollars. talk about alot of swiping paying/pumping
Rerun you are absolutely right! I apologize on behalf of any rude unprofessional cashier, that offended you. That should never happen. I am aware of all the problems you drivers face and always take that into account. It's too bad some drivers don't welcome the opportunity to get a little walking in. After sitting so many hours, it should be a relief to stretch your legs. Be that as it may.
Ezrider I feel your pain. This is a bank thing. The corporate card don't shut you off, like a regular credit card would. Unfortunately I don't have any answers for that dilemma, except to come on inside and let us set the pump for a determined amount and get your fueling done in one shot. Yes you would have to come back in for another receipt, that shows your gallons. I am sorry, the system is definitely flawed.
Thanks guys for respondingBigJohn54 Thanks this.
wright express does it all the time and differnt cut off amounts at different stations leads me to believe its a station thing rather than a card thing. some stations will hold your card and let you pump to your hearts content.
i was at one fueling station that was pre-pay only diesel pump was a good distance from the counter with no card reader on the pump, by the time you walked from the counter to the pump it would time-out and void the transaction. after several trips back and forth i left without fueling there.
Especially when different stations have different rules. I can only speak for out particular PFJ.
