I also agree that booze and cigarettes/tobacco/snuff should not be allowed to be purchased with food stamps. However, as someone who has food allergies including an airborne allergy to nuts and had a child that was highly milk allergic and was on food stamps/WIC in the past, I found it pretty much irritating that peanut butter was one of the things that was a MUST to buy on WIC (I always gave it away to the nearest person that would accept it as it was too dangerous to have in the house!) but luckily you could get pretty much any type of formula on WIC yet you HAD to get cow's milk rather than a milk substitute such as soy milk - by the time my daughter was off of formula, my husband agreed to drink the milk so that my daughter would not be exposed to it. In addition, there was a time in my life (about 7 years) when my body would only allow me to eat seven foods which had to be organic - all were on the "healthy" foods list but there were just very few I could have. In other words, there is no "one allowable food list fits all".

There are many on the system that have their ways around the time limits, and all the other hoops that need to be jumped through. It's a game to some of these people.

I completely agree with the drug testing. It's about time, and I hope more states start doing this. You have to deal with drug testing to get many jobs, not just trucking jobs. What's wrong with having to do it to get handouts from the tax payers.

I saw on the news that FAST FOOD joints, such as McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, etc., were lobbying Congress to allow the restaurants to accept food stamps:yes2557:. Buy a "BIG MAC" with food stamps.

You are 100% correct that gvt has no biz dictating what you put in your body. But, if you don't like the attached strings, you don't have to take the handout from Uncle Sugar, using money earned by working Americans.
I'm against mandated drug testing for welfare folks. The whole system breeds dependency. I'm for legalization of MJ, but that doesn't mean I'd hire a user to drive a CMV.
Our dear, benevolent gvt has been in the business of dictating to citizens for a very long time. Seatbelt laws, helmet laws, more and more restrictive gun laws.
