Ac and sleeping

This is one of my HUGE 'pet peeves'! I just blogged about it today, the abuse against truckers in this Country. I called it, "I am an Abused American" and I rant about the way we all are being treated in this industry now. Allen Smith, from http://www.askthetrucker.com/ and http://www.truthabouttrucking.com/ will be holding the First Annual Truck Driver Social Convention this year, http://www.truckingsocialmedia.com/driver_benefits/index.html, where there will be room for 550 truckers to finally come together, and start implementing positive changes in this industry. We have strength in numbers!

I'm in Champlain, NY, by the Canadian border. Got to the border, but I wasn't in the system, even though my DM said I was "cleared to cross" and gave me an entry number. I am feeling angry, abandoned, and my paycheck has gone into the toilet....AGAIN. I'm sick of living in a truck, and not being able to pay my ###### rent! So, I vented my frustrations as to how we are all being treated by blogging about it. And I hope to be at the Truck Drivers Social Convention this October 15, 2011 in Tunica, MS. I want to be a "doer" and not a complainer, and although most of us can't agree on much, we can ALL agree that we are not being treated fairly, or earning the wages that we deserve. We can come together on this! We are NOT the stupid, unwashed, ignorant "unskilled" labor that some would have the general public believe. We need to raise the standards of the industry again, to be able to feel pride in Moving America, to be respected and valued productive members of society.

You guys are going to love this. Here's my APU as we were installing it on the M818.

It's the remains of a lighting trailer with a Kubota 3-cylinder diesel. It's nice and quiet, but probably not as quiet as that Thermo-king. It is much quieter than the jobsite type diesel set installed on my last truck. RVs used to roll me an extension cord just to get me to shut it off.
The A/C units itself are separate from this (two 9000BTU military units). I started putting generators on my trucks because it was impossible to sleep in Texas summers, or most year round in Texas without some A/C and you can't depend on finding power. I got no a/c in the cab but sleeping is a different thing. I wouldn't put a dog in that thing overnight in the summer.

I've had more than one falling-asleep truck driver scare the heck out of me and after reading this thread and knowing about the no-idle rules, I'm convinced y'all are getting the shaft and are also going to get the blame for a situation you don't control.
It ought to be a safety requirement to have A/C in the sleeper (whether you use it or not, no one's going to force anyone). I'm guessing the general public would agree with the truck drivers about the need for a/c in the sleeper just on safety grounds alone. Use their own hysteria against them and it might bowl over the companies. Are there any congress critters who have been truckers, or have trucker family?

 

It is not the tickets,it's the companies.Preachin' SAFETY,SAFTEY,but they think you are gonna get proper sleep in a truck baking in the heat and you aren't supposed to have any air conditioning?There comes a time in all things in life where you have to make a stand no matter what the consequenses are and I think that time is now.All drivers having to deal with these ########### outfits should just remember to tell them these three words:GO #### YOURSELF!

 

Oh no,you miss the point.All trucks do have ac it's just some bean countin ###### came up with the bright idea that drivers do not need ac or heat to save the company money.Well here is my idea to save company money:#1-fire bean countin ######.#2-All management suit and tie wearin' do nothin' scum should take a 30% pay cut.
