the compressor can hydraulic and break the connecting rod if over charged with freon. but it will lock up solid when it happens. if the pulley clutch kicks in it will squeal. happened to mine after we tried to add freon, HVAC buddy told me those kits are the devil lol.

If it hydrauliced and broke the rod at start up, it had too much oil in the freon, just too much freon will take a little bit to heat up and build pressure.

just going by what the tech told me. it wasn't at start up, I had been on the road for a while but we had just added the freon before I left. unplugged the clutch wire and carried on. I pack a shorter belt to bypass the AC compressor (no serpentine). AC and me have some kind of love/hate relationship. I love it, it hates me.

It is possible, but usually when they build too much pressure it takes out seals or hoses, but even a seal in the comp means you will be buying a new comp and drier anyway. They can be resealed but it usually cost as much as a new one if paying labor.
I had to have my air worked on this year, instead of doing it myself, the price was what I hated. lol

I am pretty intimate with every single component of the AC on my truck. I have replaced everything from front to back, but it is an older unit and to be expected I suppose. had to wait almost a year for the line running back to the sleeper, must have been a run on them. last summer was the first one in several years that I had no issues with my AC.

I probably shouldn't have posted that last bit. I guess we'll see if it still works in May.

My old 96 W9, has had the best air I could ever ask for, every two years I have had to add one can, summer before last the comp seal started leaking and I could fill it one day and it would be low the next. This summer I was having some health problems, so I took it to the volvo dealer, where I get a discount. lol 3700 bucks later I get it back and it lasted all of two weeks. lol

if the clutch wont lock on the ac compressor. and the ac fuse keeps blowing. then its the diode in the clutch plug harness. replace it and bam

My fuses kept blowing every time I turned on the defrost.

The clutch was practically dangling from the compressor. Because the compressor was broke.
