Spring is here, and that means that I have to try and wake my ac system up from hibernation. And problems begin...

Very high pressure on low side, nothing much happening on high side.
No cold air blowing, the ducts are warm. Clutch is kicking in, compressor is working, pressure goes back up if I let some out. But no pressure fluctuation on the gauges.
Could it be the expansion valve? Or is my AC compressor gone? It seems like it runs fine, still builds pressure, and not seized...
AC problem - what does this reading mean?

Looks like a bad compressor if the compressor is running all the time. How do you consider that building pressure? Both the valves are closed on your gauges?
PermanentTourist and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
You have the same pressure on both sides, about 70 psi, so nothing is really happening. This looks like the reading you would get engine off, identical pressures. If the engine is running and compressor is kicking in and these readings stay steady like this then there is a good chance the compressor is shot, the low side isn't getting pulled down at all and the high side is building no pressure.
You say the pressure goes up but this photo does not show that. How long does the compressor run when the clutch engages?
Need to vacuum the system, check for leaks, then put in the proper amount of refrigerant to see what is really going on.PermanentTourist and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
its just a reference tool.

I guess the next question is, should I replace the compressor myself, or have TA do it? Is it pretty easy to do in a roadside / back of truck stop type setting?truckdriver31 Thanks this. -

I see that there are refurbished/chinesey compressors online for $200ish, and I also see that it looks pretty easy to replace myself - just 4 bolts, a couple lines, and the belt. Gonna call freightliner tomorrow and see what price they have for a civilized compressor, and then gonna decide.
Any thoughts?truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
Probably better to take it somewhere, where they got the equipment to do it right.roshea, Opendeckin and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
