Had the manifold changed out but now have what sounds like a boost leak. The shop I used checked it for a boost leak but it's still making the noise. Maybe an exhaust leak??? A friend of mine said he had heard the same noise when his manifold gasket needed replaced.

idle it up to 1500rpm. and squirt windex or soapy water on all the connections. and I do mean all. you will only make about 2 or 3lbs of boost but it is enough to see bubbles, that will be the leak.

Replacing the packing at the joints can be done without taking the manifold off, but it never lasts. That is what any cat dealer will do for warranty though.

An aftermarket manifold will usually have the Cummins style ring seals, which are much better. For stock manifolds, I fill the gap in the slip joint with silicone, then put the packing around it. When the silcone burns, it packs in there and keeps them sealed for much longer.

If you don't find any hose leaks, check really close at the bellows pipe that goes from the top turbo to the precooler. There's very little room and I've seen many installed crooked and not sealing. The turbo needs to be clocked right and there is very little room to get the clamps on there without hitting something. If anything looks crooked, it's probably leaking.

I did the little soap trick this morning. It has several leaks. Took it up to Cat. He took the pipes and clamps off several times so I'm confused why he was never able to get it right.

Is it possible the manifold is causing a leak? CAT seems to be stumped so far. They said it sounded like the turbos but they took them apart and they are fine.

What are the chances this full tilt manifold is just junk and the noise I hear is an exhaust leak?

Cat should have been able to find an exhaust leak .... I hope..

Anyway you'll see the soot trail soon if you do have a exhaust leak.

It ended up being the wrong manifold gasket was used. Still don't have my truck back yet though. The shop that did the botched install job won't refund me the money because they say since it didn't come with instructions from full tilt to not use the stock manifold gasket that they aren't responsible. Then after that i have $408(labor) for cat to take apart the turbos to inspect them(I was pretty sure that was a waste of my time before they even started). Anyways problem solved with a phone call. I would of never thought this would of turned into such a big ordeal for a relatively simple job. I guess I need to grow some balls and do stuff myself. I can mess it up for free myself(labor)!
