I thought for sure there'd have been shrapnel everywhere. That trailer held up a lot better than I figured it would.
Actually while I don't see smoke, it looks like the after the idiot starts to pull out the oncoming truck 'wiggles' a bit. That could be him hitting the breaks Not to mention if he was in that much of a hurry, pulling out while the car was turning in would have likely made the left. Still way too close, but at least no wreck. -Steven
I agree 110%. I've been through that intersection a lot. Coming down the hill with a heavy load you've got no chance to make that stop if someone pulls out in front of you like that. The thing is the majority of traffic makes the turn, but you CAN'T just pull out in front of a truck like that and assume they are going to make the turn. For the comment that noted the downhill bound truck didn't hit the brakes, look again. The front of the truck dips as he applies the brakes. ABS systems today mean you aren't smoking the tires anymore. Good thing nobody was injured in this one.
From the looks of it, the driver that pulled out and got hit could have waited another 20 seconds for a clear road.
He was braking because he was slowed way down at impact, you can tell by how slow he was going after the hit, that glancing blow didn't slow him down that much. Had he been going a solid 55-60, the force probably would have ripped that trailer apart or tossed it with so much force that the truck tipped over.
Tell you what. If I were coming down that hill, heading around a blind side and onto an unfamiliar intersection, I would have slowed down. Not rollercoasted it like I do other hills. There are guys on here who say they can guess what other drivers will do on the road because they're so experienced. Well, if that's the case, an experienced driver should know that the road is full of new drivers and they can make dumb moronic decisions which will make you look like the fool. Ones a moron, the others a fool.
He slowed a good amount. He slowed and kept it straight which is the best he could do. The guy with the dash cam should have had the right of way over the volvo that pulled out. Did he wave him out or something? Coming down the hill you'd be watching for the guy with the cam to make a stupid move, not the volvo.
that's not a blind corner, so the guy should have seen the other truck coming down the road. the guy was mashing the brakes pretty hard..
