ABS doesn't prevent brakes from locking. They release it after locks. It will still produce tire smoke, and if you don't hold the brake down like I said, you won't jack knife. Oh, and a tire doesn't have to completely stop rolling to break traction and produce smoke.

Might sound stupid but might as well hit him. If the downhill driver wrecks by himself while avoiding this idiot who turned out guess what happens? Insurance company says you were not in control of your vehicle and this is going on your policy. However he hit the guy and hard (unavoidable if you ask me), and now what happens? Insurance will look at it and the idiot who pulled out his policy will be covering the downhill drivers wreck. That is not the safest intersection but if you are coming up that winding hill and you can see there is a truck to your left coming down a grade you should know you need maximum time to turn left there.

5 seconds from when the Volvo started his move until impact. You would have avoided impact by stabbing your brakes, I don't think so.

Dash cam are like convex mirrors, things are closer than they appear. Much closer. Hard to tell if the truck coming down the hill could have maybe reacted a bit quicker or not but the only way he was avoiding impact would have been to swerve to his right. That would have meant hitting another vehicle.

You can come up with all the hypotheticals you want, maybe he should have come down the hill slower, maybe he could have left home later etc. but once faced with the situation you can't tell me he should have done anything different.

If he swerved to the right there was a motor home parked on the edge, and also he would of possibly went over the edge and straight down. There is a longer video of this on YouTube somewhere

Here in the real world, he will most likely be charged with a preventable, meaning he could have done more to prevent it. Will it cost him his job if he's company employed? Most likely not. Would anything he could have done prevented the accident? Who knows? But I've been in similar situations, I've not had an accident. When I watch the video I see a driver that failed to yield, and a driver that was extremely slow to respond to the situation developing ahead.

I don't know about that. At first glance that's what I thought but after watching it a few times, full screen on a large monitor, it appears he reacted within one second of the Volvo starting his suicide move and did slow a good bit. That truck was much closer than the dash cam lets on when dummy pulled out.

I'm sure some pencil pushers would call if preventable. He should have consulted with his psychic or some silly crap I guess.

Yea but the bottom line is, if you don't want your head smashing into a trailer you need to SLOW it down! Only reason this guys head wasn't squished is because he moved to the shoulder. Without a shoulder he would be bug splatter.

If I was him and they charged me with a preventable, I would toss them their keys and tell them to go #### themselves.

That was my thoughts. Why did the driver doing the camming sit there so long before the truck pulled out? Maybe he was going to make that left?

I think he was waiting for that truck coming down the hill to pass.
