How are 2 semis stopped in the lanes of travel and sleeping? Presumably if there was a road shut down situation and a 7 mile back up, they'd have others behind them and stopped/parked before they decided to sleep right on the interstate. Everybody behind them simply went around? Nobody laid on the air horn as to say MOVE IT once road was ready to go again? What am I missing here?

Not trying to give you hard time. But regardless of day cab or sleeper truck, if you can't drive (safely) you can't drive.

I am glad your dad is safe. And he needs a lawyer, cause he ####ed up. I live in WI and driving in the bad weather is just another day for us. All ltl companies run, no matter how bad it is, so I get it. The reason I got heated, we got certain individuenals from minneapolis that park anywhere they feel like, no care in the world. If I smacked into one of these ########, I would not leave until trooper arrived. We all got phones with flashlights, night shouldn't be an issue to take a picture. And if the road was actually closed and he still ran. Well, still fight, but very slim outcome. Good luck

Yeah but you don't just pull over on a road either. Try and get to a safe haven. I drive to I know what it's like. But you also know weather can turn in a instant especially in some areas

This isn't their responsbility, they are not incharge of the truck, the driver is. He is supposed to know WHEN NOT TO DRIVE.

    Day cab is no excuse.

Stop making excuses, I have heard them all. You know when to pull over, you pull over.

OK that said, did your dad get the names of the other drivers or at least the other companies names?

If they were stuck in the middle of the road without lights warning other trucks, it don't matter what the weather conditions are, they are partially or fully to blame. IT IS your dad's responbility to gather that info up, it is his responsibiltiy to make sure no one else is hurt and depending on the amount of damage - TAKE PICTURES BEFORE ANYTHING IS MOVED.

Get a lawyer because if he didn't do his due diligence, here is something that could happen. He could be cited for leaving the scene of the accident without getting the cops involved.

The other driver wouldn't get out of the truck. There was a tow truck sitting behind them when my dad came up. The tow truck driver walked up to the other truck and the driver didn't care. He went back into the sleeper. Yeah my dad made mistakes and he admitted to them. He sat on the freeway 12 hrs and no one showed up. No cops no nothing. The other trucks just left. I know he said he called more then once sorry but if the cops don't show its not fully his fault they didn't.

And I drive truck myself. When there is no where to stop what do you do? I know I would keep going to find a safe haven. I have before. And I also know how the weather can turn in a instant going west and the roads were fine for him until he got passed mile marker 15 that's when it got nasty and there is no where to stop till exit 6 and the trucks were stopped at mile marker 11.

I have run Minneapolis to Fargo linehaul for a few different ltl companies. I cant think of any that sends their guys out when the weather is that bad. Now that being said, I was headed to Des Moines one night and they ended up closing I-35 At Clear Lake and I ended up sitting there - for 12 hours - in a daycab - with doubles - until they got the road open. But it wasnt ON the freeway.

There is more to this story than you are telling. Trucks dont stop in the middle of the freeway to take a nap.

Now Ive been in a backup headed home from Chicago south of Madison where the freeway was blocked by an accident and nothing moved, and I jumped in the bunk. 4 hours later we were moving.

There's nothing more. No one knows why they were parked there. There was no signs saying freeway closed either. I know the tow truck my dad sat in he did a report

OP did mentioned Central dispatch, Central maybe. Troopers are very good at helping out folks in bad weather, around these parts. I am actually surprised no one showed up for his/her dad.
