Is an accident considered a violation ? I was involved in a minor accident (my trailer clipped another trailer) in a TS lot back in oct. Slow speed and no injuries. I am moving up to a driver position at my new job (no i wasnt fired for the accident) and the application wants a list of violations. My soon to be new boss knows about the accident but im just wondering. thanks
Accident ?

if its on your driving record then yes put it down. if its not, then dont worry about it. HOWEVER since your boss knows about it, dont you think he's the one you should be asking?

an accident by itself is NOT a violation, but an accident...however, should one have ran a stop sign, red light, made an illegal lane change, whatever, and a cop writes up a ticket, that ticket would describe the violation one receives at the accident scene..
accidents have pretty much 2 classifications:
1) PREVENTABLE...means you failed to do everything possible to avoid the crash
2) NON-PREVENTABLE....means you did all you could do, to avoid the crash, but you still had the crash...
on one's work record, these crashes are on your record depending on the situations i just outlined..
since "you clipped" another trailer, you are (most likely) at fault, and got hit with a preventable....
best to ask the person in the safety dept how they wrote this up....
every job you apply to, they will ask, "ANY accidents in the past X number of years".??
you MUST answer truthfully, no matter preventable or non-preventable..
if you lie on any job application regarding this, you will either not get the job, or you can be hired then fired for falsifying an application... -
Depends on the size of the company you work for too. You may not have gotten a ticket but if your company reports to DAC then you will have a preventable accident on your DAC report but it won't show on your MVR. I am not sure but am wondering if when companies call past employers if they ask about accidents. This could hinder you also. If you are in doubt though just tell the truth. That way it won't haunt you later. Good luck man!

I told my perspective employer about it and he was there when i had someone in safety on speaker phone explain that yes it was preventable on my part but was a minor accident. Perspective employer said he had hired people that hed done worse, well see how it goes its only seasonal so who knows.

yeah, since its only a trailer ding, and not a major catastrophic accident, it would not be too big a concern, and it was good you told them up front too...good for you, let us know what happens.
