you are IN the union now..??

if so, they should "protect you and your job"....unless in the contract, the company has flexibility.....one company i worked for, now out of business NEMF, had flexibility.

    Bravo5 Thanks this.

At my building its not required unless the employee wants it. However the company requires it during a termination

it is best to have a union rep there, for the employee's protection...no matter the reason the office wants you.

well, for any disciplinary reasons at least....wishing you a happy birthday, not so much.

We have a guy that did that to. Followed his GPS blindly. Ironically, he said the exact same thing you said, verbatim- “peeled the trailer like a can of sardines”. He said he didn’t even know it happened until other drivers were flagging him down.

You know what? He’s a darn good driver, GREAT guy, and awesome employee!!!! Still works with us. It happens. Learn from it and move on.

Sure, we teased him a little about it , but he took it for what it was (light ribbing of a friend) and handled it well. It literally almost NEVER comes up anymore.

You’ll get past it. Just like he did

Only one way to be sure. They certainly can fire you for it, they would be justified. I would think the condition of the trailer and whether you were loaded would be a factor. Part of the calculus will be how much it cost them versus the cost of refilling your seat. Recruiting costs can easily run $5k. They'll have to refill it several times to get someone that stays a year or more. So the longer you've been there the more likely they are to keep you. Also the pay can be an indication. The more they pay the less tolerant they are in general. Other than that you'll have to go in and find out.

One question would be if you're fired will it disqualify you from unemployment? Generally fired with cause does, but here you might be able to appeal. If fired you'll likely be able to find another job quick enough not to need it.
