I know a guy that just did this conversion on his MXS. He replaced the turbos and acert stuff with a big Borgwarner unit, 6nz manifold, and backed the valve actuators off. Its run fine for the last few thousand miles.
-
It would have done the same without changing the turbos and just doing the other things.
-
That is how I would have done it. I like how the acerts pull compared to the single turbo.

I agree, what you gain with the conversion isn't worth the trade offs. I have first hand experience with a motor that's been switched and honestly I think the factory set up + an ECM tune is the way to go. You loose a noticeable amount of low end pulling power without the twins and with the high gears most ACERTS are spec'd with you have to drop down a gear in order to keep the engine in the RPM range it now needs to be at in order to have power and keep EGT's down. This means that you better not plan on using top gear unless you're doing close to 70 mph and at 55 mph your probably going to be in 7 hi if your loaded heavy and on anything other than flat ground.
The only positive I see with the single turbo is it cleans up the right side of the motor and gets rid of a few of the breakage prone parts. You will pick up some mileage, but you could probably pick up the same amount with other methods that are a lot cheaper. -
You will gain nothing in mpg. You won't loose any power like others said. Runs a lot cooler. Save your money. Its all BS. Save your money toward something newer with DEF.

def engines are more worser. Just take a glider, don't go to california, and put 6nz c-15 under the hood.
