I have been behind these guys on the road and when I worked for a concrete place one of these men is a contractor who builds barns. The problem I have with this is the buggies can not be seen at night and there is a lot of wrecks due to that fact. I have nothing against someone's religious beliefs, but here is the problem they don't want to be worldly by displaying orange triangles to keep from causing a wreck, but when you are pouring concrete for these guys they get their cell phones and make calls. Hello, kinda worldy there don't you think? I see them at walmart all the time tieing up their buggies and talking on the cell.
I have been at work sites pouring and some of them would say get on the radio and order another 10 yards please. Others would call it in and when I got back they would say they called in another load. I would say yeah, they called it in on their cell.....

we have the same problem in this area. although it is a problem that will cure itself in time. i think most people think old amish when someone says Amish, the majority are Mennonite, mostly as modern as you and i.

Religion is no defense for putting other people in danger. Obey the law like everybody else.
Brickman and Texasgordo Thank this. -
In Minnesota, just over the border, the Amish are allowed to use white reflective triangles to get away from the blaze orange SMV signs. They also have electric headlights probably run by dry cell batteries, that technology is old enough for them to use.
There are Amish communities in lots of places, now, they usually buy good land that is easy to work, the surplus that don't have farms, usually work in building trades, if you have an RV or mobile home from the mid west, mostly Indiana ans southern Michigan, chances are there were Amish workers involved with it.
There is a small community of Amish just east of here , they have the SMV sign on the buggy, but no electricity to the house, and no phone, they use a neighbor's phone in an emergency.Last edited: Jul 19, 2008
