Thanks, BigKid! I'll have to ask what the other drivers around there do with their truck when they go home.

I agree completely. I am still young only 32 so I look at my ira and the truck as both means of retirement someday. I can only hope that with some luck and the right planning I can retire at a decent age and enjoy some life.

Finish the lease, sell the truck and put the money to good use and be a company driver or switch careers.

As a company driver, what is their speed policy in the company trucks? Can I drive with the cruise control set at 65? Thanks!

I believe company trucks are 62 on cruise and 65 on the pedal but I'm not a company driver so not sure about their rules on speed. I believe they have a mpg requirement to get top pay. They pay company guys on a performance based system where if you do well you get top pay if not you go down. But that's about all I know on the company side.

Thanks, Kujo! What about the logging? I know they have e-logs for company drivers. What speed is that based on (as far what they consider "speeding")?

Well as a company standard no one is allowed to log over 65. Now I don't think they would say anything if you're drifting down hills. I assume that's what you mean? That is as long as you stay under 75 but that has to do with the warranty as well.

Edit just so you know that 65 isn't a super strict rule. I've had to run 70 to make a load and no one said a word to me about it. They are pretty easy going as long as you don't abuse the rules.

Thanks! That's completely understandable not logging over 65mph. The DOT would most likely have a field day if you did. Normally, even on paper logs, I would use 63mph (with rounding to the nearest 15 minutes). The last job I had with Glen Moore, they didn't want us logging over 60. All of the other companies I worked for used 63 (which for me is a good number to use). If I can cruise along at 65 on the highway when it's legal most of the time, I have no complaints. I just don't want to be in any turtle races with Swift, Schneider, Transport America, etc...clogging up the hammer lane trying to pass in a slow truck. In a 65 mph truck, you don't really get into those situations much because all of these large companies are running around 60-62. I had a 9400i at GM and with the jake brake, I could just leave the cruise at 65 and the jake on. When going downhill, the truck almost never exceed 70 because the jake kicked in about 68 or so. It was a real jake brake and it really worked (not one of those useless ones). I rarely had to brake which was nice. That's good to know they aren't one of these companies that will use a tattle to fire you if you exceed 65. I have no desire to fly down a mountain doing like 80 anyway. That's foolish and unsafe! As far as logging goes, I've never had any issues with companies or the DOT. I will have to figure out the e-log problems to avoid getting screwed on time...and parking in messed up spots like you see these Schneider and Werner drivers doing.

I don't have to worry about racing Schneider and Swift trucks at all because they all pass me easily. Drove 500 miles yesterday and 180 today so far and I never passed a single truck at all.
