See, you're exactly what I'm talking about. When I reject out of hand based on who the shipper, receiver or what the product is you don't have any rate that will ever convince me to haul that load. And it might be for any of a myriad of reasons besides a lousy shipper/receiver/freight. No means no. I know what I need but I'm not going to explain the how's and why's of that to any or everyone who calls. Time to hang up. I've hung up on people darn near in tears offering crazy money before. Some places don't deserve any trucks and some freight just sucks. Sometimes the load just doesn't work in my plan. There's plenty of choices out here, even in a down market...
Sometimes no amount of money will get it done with me. My equipment has been deemed illegal in CA or I'm booked to load in a city that's too far away from your drop to make it in time etc etc. Plenty of reasons where, "name your rate" just doesn't cut it. I have a very very long list of brokers I don't haul for too. That's another great example.
Hey bud, it's a free country. You are more than welcome to hang up on me when I ask why you aren't interested in a particular lane, I'm free to ask the question in the first place, and both of us are free to turn the other party down when calling about a posted truck or load. No one is trying to force you take a load you don't want, just asking you to use your words to explain what it is about this particular shipment that you don't like. And again, you are free to end the conversation at anytime.
Yup I totally get all of that. Of course me and my team won't know any of those reasons without a brief conversation about it. We have more than one regular carrier that we work with in our system with notes indicating they won't take loads to CA, so we don't bother those carriers about those shipments.
Understood. Often my phone is very busy and I don't always have time to explain why I can't make the move. I don't like not answering the phone when my truck is posted. I routinely just hang up if a call comes through after I've determined I can't do the run. It's rude but time is money, you know?
I get it, there have definitely been days where I can't go as deep down the rabbit hole as I like with a carrier who is trying to figure out what type of lanes/loads we have available or why we cant work with them on a certain lane.
