I read posts like this and the one thing that comes to my mind is Festus Haggen and his refusal to buy a horse just because of his orneryness.

And I can remember back in the 80s my dad bought his mom a new color tv with a remote. She made him take it back because it was too complicated and could never work as good as her black and white tv she and my grandpa bought in 1968. And it would use too much electricity. Bless her heart.

Nowadays thanks to technology, Festus would weigh 300 lbs and have the personality and brains of a mule.

Just because you may not be able to drive a truck with an automatic transmission and cattleprods doesn’t mean the rest of us couldn’t.

    “Safety margin”???

You mean like when the Bendix sees a ghost and locks the brakes on a wet road? Some safety margin...

I’m glad that works for you.

I've been keeping my speed to 55 for the last few months (mpg up from 6.2 to 7.6 is the main reason). It's funny, every day I'll find myself on a wide open highway, cruising at 55, and collecting a line of cars and trucks behind me. Everyone's either on autopilot, or has a screen in front of their face and don't notice that they've been behind the slow truck for the last 10 miles.

    Lepton1 and skellr Thank this.

It's the heartbreak of ARS (Anal Remora Syndrome). Symptoms are as you described, an overwhelming need to get nose close to the anal orifice of the vehicle in front of you. A 55 mph truck is heaven to an ARS sufferer.

Sorry, but some of these REALLY big 'uns probably shouldn't be behind the wheel, anyway.
