I've seen you going back and forth on I-10 LA to Phoenix, I run the same lane with my 2001 Volvo, N14.

I have seen CARB Officers with a tent set up after you pass through the westbound Banning Scales earlier this year and they were at the T/A in Cochella, CA checking for idling trucks during the same time frame.

Unfortunately the Company I'm leased to won't dispatch me into California after the end of this year unless I have a DPF filter installed.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and install one because I have a young child that lives in California that I need to be in her life.

I don't want a newer truck because I don't want a Truck Payment and the newer trucks are pure garbage.

A2Z Emission Solutions in Colton, CA will do a retrofit for $10,700 for a 12.7 Detroit, (14.0 Detroit may be higher) $13,700 for a Cummins N14, and $18,000 for a Cat C15.

The price varies depending on the displacement size of the motor.

A few friends of mine had their 12.7 Detroits retrofitted by them with a DPF replacing their BOC Stack and it was a clean install.

Basically they took off their muffler, replaced it with the Filter and reused the original lower elbow and upper exhaust stack pipe, and had to install a different heat shield.

All of them told me they didn't notice any drop in MPG, and that the exhaust note was quieter.

The retrofits are only good till Jan 1st 2021, after that to continue operating in California, you will need to replace it with either a 2010 MY engine or newer truck.

There aren't many CARB police. They like the Banning scale and the new I-15 Nevada. There are some random spot checks. The mathematical odds of any one truck encountering one are somewhat remote. The problem is when you DO encounter them! Big problems for a non compliant truck. They are especially nasty on Calif based small fleets. Very big fines for them. $10,000 per day per truck has been done. They are done just warning trucks and now they are making businesses pay.

I am in the same boat as you are. I am going to put on a DPF even though I am very opposed to the idea. Where are you based out of? I moved my business to Washington so when I come into Calif they don't think they own me. That Washington plate saves me a lot of money in BIT inspection fees and the problems that go with it.

Send me a pic of your truck, or just yell at me on the radio next time you see me!

I live on the West side of Phoenix and have a mix of customers here and in LA that I pick up & deliver for.
