Took the air slide and fork plate off, to check for any binding. The collar slid smoothly from “engaged” to “disengaged” and bolted the cover back on. When disengaged, I can turn the gear by hand and when engaged, it’s firmly locked. When I start the truck with it disengaged, it turns but a lot slower than when it’s engaged and I can bring it to a stop with a pair of pliers. Is it normal or ok for it to turn like this and when I put the pump on is there enough resistance to not allow it to turn?

It won't turn when the pump is conected Edit: it shouldn't turn when the pump is connected.

When you put the PTO on you have to check the backlash of the gears and then shim the gasket accordingly. They sell different thickness of gaskets for that purpose.

0.010 and 0.020 shim gaskets. P.T.O. is a Muncie TG series in your picture. I usually start with a thick and thin shim.

I do have two thin shims but the former truck was a 13 speed(I know that prolly doesn’t matter) and only used one thick shim, so that’s what I started with. I put the thick one on and could feel a little play in the pto gear so it wasn’t in a bind. While truck is running I engaged and disengaged the pto, no grinding and ran quietly.

Should be good to go. Be there needs to be some play as mentioned before "lash" so when it heats up it doesn't bind up on you.

I guess “lower” and “tip” are the 2 lines that go to the pump? On the pump which air line port, is which?

Tip or raise would be air port closest to pump, lower would be port is farthest away if that makes any sense.

SAR, Dino soar and mile marker 27 Thank this.
