    Hey Guys,

Looking for you opinions about mounting (likely welding/drilling holes) on a bumper tow reciever hitch on the back frame of the tractor.
    1. has anyone seen it besides a pintel hook on a dump before?
    2. is welding/drilling holes on the frame a bad idea for a 12 inch dropped trailer hitch reciever
I have a travel trailer or tow dolly I could pull behind the tractor, is the reason I want the hitch. 1999 Freightliner Century. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that crossmember is reinforced if used with a pintle. You'll see freighthaulers with one mounted on the standard crossmember but there will be a weight limit sticker right there, as it's only good for moving a dolly around.

Be easy enough to have a welder make up a crossmember with a receiver built into it.

Welding to the frame is generally a HUGE no-no!

What you'd likely have to do is have a rear crossmember setup similar to what a dump truck has and bolt it onto the rear frame in order to get the receiver down low enough to get the trailer to sit level.

I guess I assumed it's use would be recreational and licensed as a rv
Don't know if that would make a difference on a weld vs bolt.

There are procedures out there for welding repairs to frames but generally its considered a poor practice to weld anything directly to a truck frame.

I should have been clearer... I meant have a welder make up a replacement crossmember to bolt in...

I knew what you were saying. I was refering to the OP. Kind of looked like they were asking if they could weld a receiver to the frame.

Guys thanks for the responses, if I’m understanding you all, you’re saying replace cross-member (in yellow) with another cross-member I can weld/fabricate/add a drop reciever and ball to. Then keep the original for working. Is that right?
