All dump bodies/hoists,tanks etc are welded to the frame, as are most of the pull plates for tag trailers, my cousins ten wheeler has a 2” receiver below the pintle for if we want to pull the little trailer instead of the 20 ton, then just run the wires from the junction box to the plug, simple

Yes it can be done and yes you can weld to a cross member, not the frame itself.

You can weld and drill the frame. It’s not recommended to drill the flanges. Web only. I suggest using a heat sink when welding and would also stay on the web.

Also disconnect the batteries before you start.

You might need a tail light converter in order for the turn signals to work correctly with the brake lights. Some states require trailer brakes for tandem axle trailers over a certain weight. So even if you feel like you don't need it to stop, it may be required by law. It's not hard to wire one up. They make air to electric controllers, or you can wire into a brake signal and manually adjust the sensitivity.

Yeah I realized when reading your post, I couldn’t splice into the lights.
This JACKALOPEE | Szmyt ET Products product Spindrift posted seems like it could be worth the money.

Just ordered the same exact tow hitch you referenced. I have been through etrailer.com several times trying to find a hitchthat would work. Saw your second post and looked at my truck and I’m pretty sure its going to work. Super happy, thanks for the post!
