I start anywhere between 8-11am. That's when I run because rush hour is done by the time I'm leaving the shop.
I will start at like 2pm though if I do an overnight. I like to run at night but I still don't mess up my sleep schedule too bad. I'd rather run when it's 70 vs 100 and no scales and traffic.
I'll never run a solid overnight schedule ever again. 11pm- 1 pm. I like nights not graveyards. Big difference. I want to be in bed by 4 and sleep in. Not turn into a zombie and never see the light of day.

I distinctly remember the crowd here on TR lambasting someone in another thread for even suggesting that they won't do overnight runs. Something about "find another line of work", etc.

I need some help with elog... I've been with my company for about a month and we run e logs, after driving yesterday I only had 14 mins left on my 14 hr clock. I thought I put myself in "sleeper", but I didn't. So this entire time which is about 13 hrs now it's had me logged "on duty". What should I do? Is there anyway to edit this and if so will it give me my hours back to drive?

Put a message/note on that part of the log and notify your safety department. They can edit your logs for you. You will have to reload your logs after the edit or restart your system and you'll get your hours back.Aj84 Thanks this.

Due to the fact I fell asleep, I hope I don't get in trouble for it. I'm still new to this system, I just got back in OTR after being out for about 6 yrs.

I was going to say it'll take a couple months to get use to odd sleep patterns but I see you started driving in 2014 so if you haven't adjusted by now then you probably won't.Truck driving can really wear a person out.I would suggest finding a dedicated job.I was OTR for 9 yes and I never really had much of an issue sleeping.

I won't drive when I am sleepy. But I run the loads as needed. If I have to stop and take a nap I will do so. I have called my terminal manager and let him know that I will be late to deliver because I need that nap. Never had a problem with it either.

What I did in my time is when assigned night time running to be somewhere leaving at 1 am and being arriving at 8 sharp in the worst of winter storms up in Altoona or Bedford etc which can be pretty amazing as far as winter goes in the area like that. Is take a few days OFF so that I go to bed in the DAY TIME for about 4 days or so. It's authorized time off that DM Bowman would give me out of Fredrick for the specific purpose of flipping my sleep cycle from day to night and vice versa. Need 3 to 4 days to do it.
What to do if you don't have 4 days? Then go back to a military recruit who is about to be shipped to parris island. He will be made to sit and wait not allowed sleep the day the bus comes for him. He will arrive at Parris Island pretty late in the day or night. At a certain point long past most people's bedtime they will sleep a little bit, not sure exactly how long but 6 hours or so, just enough to really sleep for a short time. BOOM getup now!
And then every single time every night bed time and wake time. It wont take long to calibrate a recruit.
In trucking the logs flip your sleep cycle from night to day and back in about 18 hour time periods every 30 to 40 actual hours (Not logged hours) you will be back to night or day again. Until you flip back again.
The Government does not understand or accept that people require a routine start time each day or night. I am dragging now because it's 9 am and need my coffee to get going. But I know if it's 9PM something in me comes out for he night and start hunting while rest of you dragging... understand? SO I do my work at night in trucking. In some areas of the USA the roads are so empty you don't see anyone. And that is good. You can really get up and make time and distance.
Another form of resting is required when waiting out a winter storm. If sherman hill in WY is dangerous to man to the point that nothing is advised to go over that mountain not even trains, you know to stay put and wait for the worst to pass and that the road dept has had a chance to collect the bodies of those who did not wait as you are waiting now.
You have to sleep and rest when waiting. That kind of sleeping is really hard if you are full of can we go now? You think witht he smart phones (I got a crapphone and hate em... maybe one day I will glory in a smart phone...)you will get a APP message saying Sherman hill is now open. It's time to go.
Finally quality of sleep is important. I remember a mountain called Adams in Arizona before New Mexico near the border far to the east of Triple T truckstop with a loaded nogales load, for which we just finished about a day of combat pay getting loaded and scanned, sniffed and checked by customs etc. and got clear. Instead of going to sleep at triple T or any city, town etc we headed for a particular mountain with a half decent parking stone area.As long the weather was dry you can park her at night and get a good rest (After winding downt he gear against the winds coming up the upgrade slope..) It can be really good to have a collection of places where it's POSSIBLE to sleep undisturbed by anyone, even the law. -
You also need a new appt time. Make it happen too. That's two of your needs taken care of. Presto no more late eh?
