Adjusting the Rate

    I/m sorry but that's just stupid. You would leave a load over 10,000 measly pounds? Then you have to find another load and lose the DH you had getting to the 45,000 load PLUS the DH you have getting to the next one?

    Furthermore, it's possible that the broker was only telling the truth and the shipper was the one to blame so now you have spent time and fuel money for what? To piss off what may be a good broker over 1/4 of a mile to the gallon? makes no sense.

    I say again, bid every load as though its max weight and be done with it.

    I have had several situations like this, and the reverse, as long as Im legal I don't worry about to much. Loaded yesterday supposed to be 25000, ended up about 7000, so I figure it averages out over time.
    Most of the time these brokers don't have a clue about what your loading, so I go in expecting the unexpected.

    the average market rates on load boards and rate indexs do not specify if your hauling 25000lbs or 50000lbs a truck load is a flat weight of 45000 reguardless. I hate as a broker when carriers try to get more money for the extra few pounds. I totally agree with you.

    I will agree as long as it is under the more or less industry standard of 48k. But once you go over that you owe me extra. If I can scale 51,500# and I sign your rate con for 48k don't think I will haul it for free. If the bundles, sacks, pallets whatever go over 48k by a few hundred pounds not a problem. But if I pull on the scale loaded and walk in to hear that I'm going back to get one more, not gonna happen till we renegotiate.

    This happened to me also. Pick up 20 pallets at 25K, get there and the pallets are dbl stacked so it only took up half the trailer-total weight was 2500lbs.
    Product was styrofoam packing peanuts-125lbs per pallet, including the pallet!

    once booked a truck, on rate conf. wrote 18,000 lbs i look again on the po and saw omg load is actully 28,000 lbs was thinking if i should resend the rate conf. didnt at the end, truck arrives was loaded and headed straight for the interstate delivered the load next day. What a pleasure to do business with such a carrier. They understand the broker and dont take advantage of every little mistake.

    What everyone else said, as long as it was listed as a full load. Now if listed as a partial then that's a different story. Weight needs to be more accurate. And I would never consider 35000 lbs a partial. The only other time where it might be a problem is if you were pulling like a stretch trailer and could only haul so much. But in that event we always double check the weights before accepting the load and let them know what we can haul.
