Do you have an external swr/power meter? It would be interesting to know what the reflected power is.

Only reason I’m not using them. They’ll wind up in horizontal orientation on a beat-to-death, leaking, smoking Pete that won’t idle below 1000. Hundreds of chicken lights on both tractor & trailer. English won’t be broadcast from them. Never crosses state scales. Cheap mounts with worse coax visible. Seen this more times than I can count.

I did state he may need to ground the antenna. As far as output 10ga wire flows the amount current needed for that radio to put out it's full wattage potential. My t880 has a 1.03 swr with a 5' firestick that is better than we could get out of my Wilson, and Francis, and we tried a Predator that he had in stock all on the same day. Now one of those may work better on his truck. He should go to a good cb shop that will try the other out before making him purchase.

Good point on easy to steal...Predator 10K's work just fine with antenna quick-release mounts...just have to get in a habit of taking it off when you leave the truck or turn in for the night.

A couple of The Guy's in this Forum made a dipole for their truck and they seem to get good results over 20 miles.
The antenna system along with the type of vehicle and how the antenna system is attached to the vehicle will be 90% of the performance

Jerry's the one doing all the work, Hank is (or was) his dad...Jerry just left Hanks name on the site out of respect...He use to have the whole story posted on the web site, but once he really got buisy building Jerry re-did the site and now the story behind Hank Breedloves mounts beginning is gone...

Anyway, click where it says "HOME" on my last post and it takes you to the store site.

Doubt you doubled the power but most likely your radio was starveing for power..
