I sit here a read ,how bad it is? if your a o/o you can make your own deals depending on what your pulling! yes ,i do agree things can wear a man /women down. but in the same respect i think it comes down to buy passing the brokers and makeing your own deals, im not saying your gona get rich quick but its a #### sight better than hauling cheap frieght off the so called load boards where everyone got a peace of the pie! My opinoin is yes the big companys are theives, yes the brokers are scarffing money off the top,and the brokers going to give you the going rate, reguardless of what they sold the load for, so why not turn the tables ,if you have your own auth you can make your own deals and proffit from them, i dont claim to be the sharpest marbel in the bag, but there got to be the want ,the disire, and the pride involved in what you do! i'll use a quote from the last

Yeah, I think he set the record straight. If it sucks for you, don't just complain about it, make adjustments.

Long ago they told Christopher Columbus that he was wasting his time going to the new world. Edison was scoffed at for going through 5000 light bulbs before he found a filament that stayed lit. Steven Jobs's idea of mass marketing a personal computer was laughed at because at that time computers were for big companies, univerisities and electronic enthusiasts.

So if you're new like me, or even come from a family of truckers, like me, don't let chicken little scare you, he was never a truck driver.

Im in South Africa but some things are universal it seems.I seldom drive any more.I was a year from finishing collage when I was forced to start driving as my dad (owner operator) fell ill and I could not let my parents loose everything due to medical bills etc.I took over his truck .Fortunately I was passionate about it and learnt everything I could.I battled as I started with an old truck with 2 new trucks worth of debt.God has a sense of humor and saved my ### just in time more times then I can remember. Then after18 years of hand to mouth I got a lucky break. All those little things you can learn every day are for you own good. There is a large Fortune 500 US company that was building a mine in the DRC (Most violent country in the world , Google it). They were having huge problems moving the plant they needed to site. They had hired some of the biggest forwarders in the world. Still things were going badly.I was called by one of them for some advise and that was my break. It all was fairly simple to sort out, if you pay attention and remember all you can. It is never a wast. Now I have 20 of my own trucks and a freight handling warehouse.I make a point of been in the loading dock now and then to talk to the drivers of other companies who don't know who I am.There are some that are there to get the job done and others who are there to wine. Some do it only as a last resort and are bitter.Yes as a driver you often get treated with no respect.Just because you get treated like an ### hole sometimes does not mean you have to be one.Im not saying for a moment there are not things to complain about, but all ways attempt to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. If you practice this you will at least get the respect of some I guarantee you. You can then also respect your self as a professional trucker , holding your head up as it is a noble profession when done well.

Um.. NO. I do not think I will take your advice. In 1995 I had just such a problem, with a problem company. They'd do cool stuff like Qualcomm the drivers when the scales were open and checking logs.

Well. I photographed them and plastered them all over the USENET. Then, I made a nice video and mailed it to the D.O.T in Colorado. The title "In a Continuous Fraud. The Story of the US Trucking Industry".

This was a nice adjustment. The results were nice. Generating some nice revenue indeed. Over 11.5 million dollars in fines.

That job? Well I had no problem in finding another crook with a truck. The industry is full of them.

This industry richly deserves, ALL of the badmouth that it gets. The number of wrecks seems to be on the rise lately.

That old boy down in Oklahoma killed ten people when he rear ended them. Another one out in Odessa,MO someone messed up. Three trucks collided in broad daylight. I was in the line waiting as the lifeflights hauled off the drivers.

So here's yore "real truk driver" award...oh wowie za wow wow wow. Hammer down sonny, as soon as ya get outta school.

Who in the hell pissed in your Corn Flakes? Seriously, if you think all truckers and all trucking companies are complete ####, then get the hell out of the trade. You're the bad apple here, tainting the new breed of driver with your pessimism. Have you ever thought about trying to do something to change trucking for the better? Or is whining about others all you know how to do? Go take a Prozac or a Valium or something.

Well, you know what they say: "One bad apple spoils the rest of the bunch."

Trucking does NOT deserve the bad press that it gets. It's just more bad apples making everyone look horrible as a whole unfortunately.

I aint worried about what Carroll6 thinks and yes when I get my class "A" and start working, I will be on the lookout for the good and the bad. I'm going to be a professional and deal with it. What amazes me is the fact that Carroll6 will spout out all this stuff and since he has been a member since 2008, you would expect more wisdom with all of his 16 years of experience, yet he has roughly 15 posts and ZERO thanks to his warchest. The armchair psychologist in me senses a credibility issue topped off with a little burnout. It's time to leave the Biz Carroll6.

Please double space, you write such great posts. It makes for easier reading and understanding. This only applys to the extremely long posts.

I swear i miss some of the best well thought out posts, simply because they are so crowded and hard to read on my screen.

Carry on, don't mind me! lol
