Trying to maintain lane control based on where you are in relation to the fog line is wrong. Often I will drive behind a trucker that is obviously following the fog line. The problem is OBVIOUS as soon as they come to an exit or entrance.

We've all seen it. The sudden confused wandering in a "lane" that is suddenly twice as wide as normal. You don't know if they plan to take that exit or are simply out of their comfort zone. It happens again at the entrance ramp, often with an additional hazard of wandering into the lane of merging traffic.

Learn to "see the line, drive the line". Stop trying to look at the fog line and lining it up with a particular part of the hood.

The ability to maintain perfect lane control becomes absolutely critical if you drive a two lane road with no fog line and/or NO shoulder. It's essential if you haul wide loads. How often do you see a driver hauling a wide load that's wandering all over the place? Tomorrow I pick up a "power only" load, a trailer that has an 11' wide wheel base that's 63' long. You think about that. My route will take roads that will have 12'-13' wide lanes with no shoulder. There's no room for anything but perfection in lane control. The load pays REALLY well. It isn't an opportunity given to someone that is lackadaisical about their lane control.

I have years of experience. I still constantly work on my lane control, shifting, and general driving skills. Never stop improving.
