If he hasn't already...and I am pretty sure he can, he needs to send a Q-Com message to the payroll department DOCUMENTING the mistakes. He might have already been assigned a specific person in payroll that he can communicate via Q-Com. When he DOCUMENTS the mistakes it needs to be clear, concise with factual information regarding the mistakes. Talking on the phone will do nothing and I can imagine he is a little upset over this and the sitting so he might be venting to much over the phone. As for the sitting part...Welcome to OTR trucking for a major company.

    77smartin,
Thank you, I'll tell him about the Q-com message and you are very right he is upset (which takes alot, he's a VERY easy going, passive person. I'm the not so passive one. LOL but he's looking at not being able to buy Christmas for our kids and that is what has sent him over the edge.) so you're right Q-com will probably be the better idea at this point. Honestly, I don't think the sitting would have been so bad to him, if it wasn't for all the other things and the fact that he was 1 1/2 away from the house and his mentality was he could have taken 2 more days of home time. We have alot to learn and alot to get used to, which wouldn't be as hard if the payroll was right. Money isn't everything is our mentality and we are very simple people, but when they threaten to turn off your lights and you're doing all you can it just makes everything alot worst. (which I'm certain you understand) Thank you for your help.

Bfore doing anything I would try to get his payroll straightened out. I can certainly understand his frustration. It can be difficult during holidays, especially when children are involved. It would be much better for his career if he could stick it out with Covenant, providing the payroll situation can be straightened out. One other thing to keep in mind is the time before he will receive a paycheck after moving to another carrier. He will probably lose at least a week or two during transition. Orientation can usually take up to a week. And it will usually be at least another week before getting a check. It is much easier to find a driving job once a driver has at least a year of current experience. If he finds that he needs to make a change, then you may have him check with Swift, Roehl and Millis, along with the others that were mentioned. I don't know the current hiring requirements, but all of them hire inexperienced drivers. Good luck.

This may or maynot help but eh. Are you sure hes being truthful? Is he getting any advances on his checks that is leaving him without a check? Most new Truckers do not understand once you start getting those advances you will be in debit most of the time. They dont understand that eatting in a truck stop 2-3times aday is very costly like 30-50bucks aday. Thats not counting a snack and drinks.

Thank you truckerpete1990. Yes sir he's being truthful, he's put me "his secretary" lol in charge of monitoring the paystubs. He has had to take out advances and yes sir they do cause havoc, unfortunately when you don't have any other option you do what you have to do. He's not eating out, he's living off of pb&j, ravioli's, and things like that. We're being told the issues with his pay are because he was the "ghost" on the trainer's truck. Apparently, there can't be 3 people logged as being on a truck??? I really don't understand the "ghost" thing, it makes no sense to me, but that is what we are being told.

Almost anyone would be better then Covenant.

Knight has a terminal in Florida and they will hire with 3 months experience. I worked for them in the past and can tell you that you will make a steady income that won't be spectacular but will be livable till he puts his time in to move on to something better after a couple of years of driving. My experience with Knight is that if you make it to orientation you will be hired.

US Xpress is a good choice if he wants to train or team, it can be not so good if he wants to solo. Be forewarned that they are anal about having every I dotted and T crossed at orientation and if anything is the slightest out of place they will cut him loose and he will be on his own for getting back home.

The truck stop mags, local phone listings, indeed.com, craigslist, and internet searches are all resources for looking up companies that hire in your area.

    missjhawk,
You didn't have any issues with changing companies like that? I mean..you didn't have any problems getting jobs? We were worried no one would take him if he switched. A question I haven't thought of til now to ask, if he switches now does he have to start all over with training???
