Advice on Boots?

I havent worn a pair of boots that aren't steel toe since I was in high school. But then I can sleep with the windows open when its below zero. It's heat and humidity that do me in!

My current boots are Wolverine NXT and I love them. Steel toe, waterproof, slip resistant, and electrical shock rated.

 

Timberland makes a wide variety. I have a pair of 6", lace to toe boots that are working out pretty well for me.

 

150 spent once will last several years and be comfortable to wear the entire time. Those cheap walmart boots last 3 to 4 months max plus the soles are so crappy your feet hurt. Vs 48 to 60 months of good comfort on a good quality set. Just be sure to get the oil resistant soles otherwise the fuel and oil on the fuel islands will rot the threads out. And don't let them stay wet. Stick them under the ac register on the passenger side for so they can dry out.

 

It's all i wear. The key is to also wear good quality socks meant for a boot.

 

While i wont argue your point, im local, in and out all day, up and down a open deck dozens or more times a day. From mud to concrete, warehouse to job site. Weather from deep snow and 20 below to 95 and 80 percent humidity. Do they really last long enough? Honest question.

 

I have a pair of Keen Steel Toe boots. Had them since 2012 and been wearing them pretty much every day since 2014 when I started driving. Other than being dirty they are in close to new condition.

 

How long they last depends on how well you take care of them. Buy a resoulable boot. Water proof it and then clean them often and oil as needed. They should last a long time.

 

Yes the good ones are worth the money, and expensive doesn't always mean good. Like I said, I worked construction for almost 10 years, welding sparks dropping on them, mud, concrete, snow, steel beams 200 feet off the ground, in them for 10+ hours a day. Gotta take care of them regardless. If they get dried out too bad from being wet then dry and wet and dry the leather will crack. I usually smother mine in mink oil once a month. Keeps the leather hydrated and keeps them water proofed.

Good socks make a huge difference.

 

How well do they breath? My fav pair of boots, (ever) were jungle combats with insoles, tough as hell with breathable mesh...

 

Depends what you get. I prefer and in many cases had to have all leather due to being around sparks and globs of molten metal. So compared to jungle boots they probably suck. Always wore slip on's tho, being loose and open at the top as opposed to lace ups gave the heat somewhere to go.
