Well, my call to Freymiller didn't go as hoped, as it seems I live just outside their hiring area so the lady couldn't offer me a job.
However, I got another call from the Maverick recruiter, and it turns out the hiring committee approved my application.I'm set to go to orientation in Arkansas on the 23rd. She's gonna call me on the 17th with the travel arrangements.
So it was a rocky road, but I seem to have made it, and with a respectable company no less.
Advice on going back OTR

Well now. Im very happy for you Neighbor. You are going to find yourself with a Class Outfit here on that 40 down yonder right quick when you settle in for your Orientation. I will teach you about a bridge that crosses 40 near their yard. You need to be very careful crossing this one because this is the one that fell some years ago. Fortunately for all involved there was a heavy jack outfit in Memphis who responded to this bridge and held it's 400 ton weight for a week until emergency life saving foundation work resettled the bridge.
Another thing I don't know if you are familiar with Arkansas. We are coming out of Summer into what we call Mud and Tornado season. When you hear the large decibel single note that howls from the alert siren near you, find a place in a basement, tornado shelter built for the purpose or follow instructions from your Staff at Orientation. And you will be ok. Don't worrry. We stand to see some severe weather in a couple of days if not sooner according to SPC (Storm Prediction Center.) So it's a beginning and a end to a beginning.
Remember Ice starts here in Arkansas about a week after your orientation, check your tires carefully when you get assigned a truck like you plan to buy it. Southern Ice storms are not like Appalachia or Intermountain Rockies.
You can look forward to some good eating food, and good people who will hold the door for you at the Post Office and use the word Sir and or Ma'am where necessary. Which is pretty often.
Don't rush into anything. In Arkansas if the roof is doing well by sunshine day, there is no need to fix it because when it raining, it's too wet to be up there fixing it anyhow.
Good luck!G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
And in a interesting turn of events, the Schneider recruiter called me, we went over my work history, MVR, etc, and he said they'd count the 3 months I worked as OTR experience so that I wouldn't be considered a student, which means I'd be eligible for a $1500 signing bonus and instead of 2 weeks orientation and then at least 4 weeks with a trainer it'd be 10 days orientation and 8 days with a trainer before getting my own truck. And to me the less time spent living with another person in a semi the better.
I'm still 95% certain about going with Maverick, but at least I'm gonna do some more looking at Schneider...G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Schneider is definitely worth considering. Maybe after a few months switch to their "bulk" division and make the big bucks. @Thull works in the bulk division.

Yes man I would definitely recommend Schneider Bulk. I'm doing pretty good over here & making decent money as well. Come over & sip the Orange Kool Aid!
