A couple shoplifting, a couple trespassing, and an assault, all from 16 years ago.

Yeah I don't get it either.

Talked to the Schneider recruiter today, he went over pay and company policies and misc stuff. The pay is a little less than Maverick, but according to the recruiter the signing bonus is $7500 (paid out over a year, $1500 at 3, 6, and 9 months then $3000 at 12 months). The trucks aren't as well equipped (no APU's and inverters) and manual instead of automatics. Van instead of flatbed. Benefits are a bit better (Maverick doesn't have 401k).

Still leaning Maverick, but I have to admit Schneider makes a compelling offer.

Get that stuff in writing, especially the 7500 signing bonus. That way when you don't get it, you can take it anyway lol

    So, an update.

I decided to go with Maverick. I started training on the 23rd of October. I went through Orientation, a week of securement training, and then 5 weeks on the road with a trainer. Came back to the home terminal in Little Rock, and just today finished my final evaluations. Tomorrow morning I go in and get assigned my own truck.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and encouragement. It feels good to finally be on my way.

Be very careful never to be south of I-630 Stone Dude. It's a high threat area. Particularly at night that is all you hear boom boom boom. Or is that the pop of the 9's they love so much.

Hey stone dude.. I read the thread from your struggle in the beginning to completion of training .. we all assume your out on your own now and running about. I defthink you made a wise choice going with Mav. They're a good outfit. One thing to concider in the future is if a company is offer huge sign on bonus it's usually for a good reason and more often then not the actual terms of getting that money make it close to impossible to get all that money. Me if give up a signing bonus for nice equipment any day. We spend far to much time in these trucks not to be comfortable. Schneider bare bones trucks remi s me to much of the old days. I'm an old school trucker but I sure like my apu, TV, fridge, and micro wave all possible because of my apu...
    Hope your doing well

    Thanks.

I'm still out here running. Sitting in a truck stop in VA doing a 34 before I deliver some granite slabs Monday in NJ about 300 miles away. First time in NJ, and from the map it looks like I'm going pretty #### close to NYC, so this'll be a fun one.
