Doubles is nothing to worry about, as long as your weight is correct. In turns, they're easy because your length breaks in the middle VS a 53' which doesn't.

A driver friend of mine told me to pull doubles that you need a roll of duck tape and a big cup of coffee. The duck tape is to put over your mirrors.
TravR1, Bean Jr. and Cattleman84 Thank this. -
Backing up is like pushing a chain. I shouldn't be so critical, MILLIONS of pounds of freight moves by doubles and triples. I think it's safe, just not for me.

I was 17 or 18. Men in the shop thought it would be a good time to have me back a set of Btrains out. It was a pull in, back out bay. They had a good laugh and was teaching me. But when it took then sometime to get it straight and out. They were not laughing. Tractor headed one way, lead the other, and pup back the other way. It was a mess.
MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
I'll add that if you have access to a scale, use it EVERY time.
Weigh each axle separately. If the dolly and the rear trailer axle both individually scale heavier than the front trailer axle, they're backwards, no matter what somebody may have printed on paper.
If you wind up on a relay bid you'll notice that some sets will be twitchier than others. This is because of billing errors, people lying about what their shipments weigh, and more importantly the driver coming from the other end being too lazy to take 30 seconds and use the scale.Bean Jr., TripleSix and jamespmack Thank this. -
I'll add that a well grease fifth wheel help tremendously.REO6205, rowekmr, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this. -

I've pulled a few sets & trains. Double chk your hook ups, don't get in a hurry. Easy in the corners. Combinations tip easier than 1 trailer. If you have to back up, push/steer the dolly around not the back of the trailer.

Do not get yourself or any body parts between the dolly and trailer. Smashed my hand real bad when I was first learning.

1 They are still not hooked to a sports car
2. Don't stare back there.. you will induce a wild wiggle.
3. Don't waste time trying to back them.. it just pretty silly. If you have to break the set, just get off you butt and do it. after a while, it just isn't a big deal.
4. Carry air hose repair kit and an extra light cord.. for pulling equipment that drivers who do not heed #3 (they smash the hell out of the hoses and electrical cords)
5. Visually check your connections EVERY time!
6. Electrical contact cleaner gets fifth wheel grease out of everything.
7. Fifth wheel grease will get on everything.
