Not true. I got hired directly to a dedicated account. Although, that might be the case since my mentor was on the account already and I was trained to run the account. So I just kind of fell into it. But as soon as your off the mentor truck, I'd talk to the terminal manager where you will be running out of and see if you can jump on a dedicated account. They may need drivers right away. The thing with dedicated accounts though, well at least with mine, is that you will run less miles but make more per mile. And you will always be running. Not sitting around like OTR.

When we came out of the Academy years ago my room mate went right to Home Depot Cross country fleet after getting off his Mentor's truck. .34 CPM at the time, and he loved it while he was here. He had a family problem and had to leave Swift after 6 months. I don't know if that fleet even operates today.

That's what account I'm on, but up here in the northeast. I'd talk to the terminal manager where you are based out of or the DM in charge of the Target account. They may need drivers now. I know Target is about to get into the busy season getting ready for summer. Doesn't hurt to ask. (I know you asked your DM, but i'd ask somebody else) Just my opinion.

I would too. The dms have what I call canned answers. You ask when you can get dedicated account they will you a automated programed response. Go to the terminal manager they have authority and knowledge to give you a real answer. Your dm doesn't have the authority to do it

i'm currently on the target fleet out of denton, tx. I can honestly say, out here in texas, it seems like swift employees only care about one person and that's them selves. if you need time off for anything, you better hope and pray there's nobody else wanting that same day off. they bully us out here into working. i'm solo so I could care less but as far as the whole not sitting thing. I promise you im not typing this and driving at the same time, that's for sure. my last pay check I only had 1300 miles. I will say it's nice to actually run somewhere and be able to dead head all the way back. probably one of the nicest things I like about this account. and its great if you live near a dc. I live an hour away from this one, so if I need to sit and wait for my next load im stuck sitting in my truck, which sucks. thank god for laptops and smart phones. I truly think the smartphone was invented by a truck driver sitting at a shipper/receiver. so yes it's a great account! I just wish the personnel would treat their drivers with a little more respect. this is the first company where I've come across a locked door to go talk to anyone in the company. most companies, you can just walk right up to someones cubicle and ask them a question and they have no problems at all pointing you in the right direction. swift is different and I heard it's because of an incident that happened a few years back with an angry driver. good luck on your search and just keep in mind, just because 100 drivers say a company is terrible, maybe you're that one person that the company or fleet is perfect for. everyone is different including every situation. best of luck!
