I always let my truck idle for about 10 min before I shut it off. Only exception is when I'm getting fuel and there is a line of trucks waiting. I figure once every couple days won't hurt it too bad plus I don't want guys waiting on me.
Advise on a broke down cat?

I almost never shut mine off when fueling. I figure its more wear and tear on the starter and turbo's, for the five minutes it takes to fuel, thats not even a measurable amount of fuel to be saved.

I always heard about this NOT SHUTTING DOWN your truck right away because you can seize the engine is that true??

NO>it's NOT true.
If you pull into a facility to park it makes sense to idle the truck for 3 to 5 mins to allow the turbo so slow it's spinning so that when you do shut the engine off the turbo doesn't spin for an extended period of time with no fresh oil running to it.Container Hauler Thanks this. -
Rule of thumb is when your EGTs pre turbo are 300*-350* and thats if you have a pyro in your truck. Ive noticed that most trucks have the EGT probe post turbo though so depending on distance add about 100-200* to what the gauge reads. You shut it down when its to hot and that will cause the center section of the turbo to wear much faster and eventually the seal will give and leak oil also it can starve the bearing and just seize the bearing up. Bad things happen when you dont do something as simple as letting your truck idle for 5-10 minutes prior to shutting it down, same thing on start up but thats a whole different topic.

Well I finally made it back home!! HAHA! That place really broke it off in me and did a piss poor job of cleaning everything up. 800 miles down the road i had a new problem which was the fan-hub went out which was another $1,250.00 on top of the $8,063.00 for the 1st break down. Before i broke down the 2nd time i ate something that made me sick which sent me to the ER and 4 day's laid up in a hotel sick as all get out. Did get a full load from seattle,wa going to boston,ma..Took a month to do the run because of break downs and getting sick... A trip from hell!! WOW..
