Hey guys, I'm getting back in a truck next week and have decided I wanna do up my Cb. The Mack I'll be driving has factory mounts on both mirrors. Should I use them or run new coax ? Single or dual? What antennas? I plan to use my Cobra29 Dale Jr edition. The guy I got it from had it peaked n tuned 5 or 6 years ago. I dont wanna talk coast to coast or anything but do wanna be able to get out decent. Any advice on setup or cheap upgrades would be great.

Dont cheap out...If you can use fresh mounts,do it..Dont bother with the chrome bs studs either..Atleast use a wilson hd stud..If its on the mirror a 5 ft skip shooter or firestick with tuneable tips..1 or 2 is up to you but with all these plastic trucks with lil ground plane i would try two..As for coax, noooo trk stop crap again,go to a cb shop and ask for co phased(75 ohm) rg8..Be sure to ask him to chk it for shorts before you leave that shop...More work for you but will likely offer better results..
Oh when you tune the ant,do 1 at a time with a single coax..

I'll have to build my setup on somewhat of a budget but was thinking of starting out with a wilson2000 on driver's side. Now by mounts your meaning new mirror mount for ant right? Can I run a single ant on a cophased coax to start, n add a second later if I choose? Oh n what is a skip shooter? The truck is a 2012 Mack n if I add a bracket to the mirror poles how should I insure proper grounding? Should I grind a small spot for bracket or run a ground strap? Sure I can figure something out there but if anyone has any tricks or tips it'd be good

Oh yeah I cracked the 29 open last night and turned the VR4 pot all the way left the back right an eighth. That just turns my audio up right? Won't cause damage though right?

No, you can't run 75 ohm coax to a single antenna. A single stick presents a 50 ohm load.

Yes, turns up the modulation level and as long as modulation limiter is intact should not result in any damage to the radio, or cause any unwanted audio distortion or harmonics.

For a cheap setup and easy tuning, just run a single antenna, decent mounts, and good coax.
I'm running a single 5ft fiberglass right now, as my Wilson 2k was stolen off the truck lol. SWR is a bit higher at 1.6, but minimal effect on range imo.
Keep in mind I'm in the DFW metro, there is so much static on the radio I don't even run at full gain.

So I've gotta decide between single or dual and buy the corresponding coax?
