Well, WP, you sure sound like you are ready for something else. Roadside inspections will undoubtedly increase, those cop cars of wizardry don't pay for themselves. I don't mean to be disrespectful of LEOs, but there's only one place to regroup the losses, the trucker. Not sure how much you want to stay in ND, but Colorado has a wealth of jobs, all kinds. My neighbor got a job in house construction, going GONZO here, claims he makes $1800/week( before tx), and all he did was buy a hammer. Point is, unless you have a viable interest in trucking, say a truck payment, bend over, my friend, it will only get worse, until people literally just won't buy the product. That sends us into a monetary spiral we can't get out of. I hate to tell you, but you aren't going to find it today, turnover is too high, and good companies have no choice but to hire unqualified or untrained drivers. You want to be part of that ? Got to be SOMETHING you like besides trucking. Get this, a guy, retired, advertised in our little paper, "Small engine repair", almost non-existent today, and he's charging $1/minute, or $60/hour and busy as heck. Again, don't sell yourself short, and leave this bacoked industry behind, like I did, and never looked back,,,save for this site, of course. With so many opportunities today, it's a great time to say adios to trucking.![]()

Appears you're just looking for discussion?
I don't live in ND.
I drive out of Denver.
I love my job. I do dry van. My biggest interest in life is watching the Apocalypse happen. I drive all over this country. Watching it.
This whole game of the fmcsa and such. It's losing it's credibility. Anybody in the industry knows.
I never did want to become a truck driver. I almost died from diabetes, 25 years ago. Was causing weight loss. No treatment. I got heavily into exercise to rehabilitate. Tried doing heavy physical work. Only problem is everybody is fighting. They're not working. They're fighting. Either join in the fighting. Or you're out the door. One way or another. I also injured my lower back about 15 years ago falling on ice. I was good at falling on ice. Fell 8 times in one day. No big deal. But this one time. Then got laid off my trash truck job. New owners. Got unemployment and a grant to upgrade my license to class A. Would have much rather gone to a physical job. Between what I already said and they don't pay diddily around here. Heck....fuel hauling around here is a $65K/yr job tops. That's a 100K/yr job. Trash job...bought a house and car. Couldn't settle on anything job anyways. Besides adjusting to working OTR. Minerals did much for me to be able to. Dr. Carolyn Dean and Magnesium. That has enabled me to keep going and adjusting to this life. No I'm not in great shape. But I get along. Actually love getting all over all the time. I wouldn't drive as long as I do if I didn't. Last summer drove 5 months straight. Summer before, 6 months. Take two weeks off at a time on purpose. I've tried shorter. Even 5 days. Time to go back and I feel like I just got here. I have far more quality time at home now, than I did when I worked here.
On the fighting in the workplace. I won't allow myself to find my place amongst the ranks of power. When I was transitioning, 5 years ago. Unemployment had me take a workplace intelligence test. You can go take it. It was designed by the SAT people. Run by them. I scored in the top 1/2 of 1% of everybody who has taken that test. Unemployment could only say...people who score that high have been taking tests. You haven't? At the place I took it. The lady was stunned that I was going to become a truck driver. I'm too wise to go join in on worshiping the god of this world with the other grubby little demons. Either join in on the fighting or you're out. -
For the newbies. That$65K/yr fuel hauling here. I walk all over that working out of Denver. Doing dry van. I learned not to pay attention so much to what they offer. Pay etc. What matters is when you get in. Do you get the miles? I've done 4K miles in a week. In this job getting regularly around 3K miles. That is actual. Not talk. That's how you make the money. Not sitting around a cold storage facility every couple of days. Darn reefer madness.

As usual.... trucking....
Got a call from boss. Volvo can't get my truck done for two weeks. So he offered either another truck to get by till then. Or I could just wait on my truck for another two weeks.
I told him I'd be in on Thursday. Take the loaner truck. We got another winter storm. Supposed to get worse through tonight through tomorrow. Then ok on Thursday. He agreed. Biggest thing I worry about in winter storms is the other idiots involving me in their stupid wreck.
At very first. They did mention some new trucks after first of the year. I'm kinda hoping he might buy me a new Volvo? Mine has 300K on it. Would be nice! I'll still drive mine before a new freightliner.dwells40 Thanks this. -
Actually the great majority of them are wonderful people. They're just out playing scooter tramp. But with that many. Say one out of ten bad. You end up with 50,000 bad ones. You don't even want to get near them.dwells40 Thanks this.

Back to work driving.
Realized I have a mental problem.
I feel more at home in my truck than I do at home. -
I think it was just about my 5 year mark when I finally got to my last metropolitan area in the lower 48 for the first time, Fargo ND. After that, I really had nothing to prove anymore, and started looking for a regional run...
WesternPlains Thanks this. -
5 year mark just a babe…….
Old_n_gray, WesternPlains and Dennixx Thank this. -
Oh thank you! At my age, anything referring to me as young makes me feel good.
.
Looks like my running is changing in this job. Basically a repeat circle in the middle of the country. Doesn’t have to. But when I think of safety. Maybe having to shoot some idiot in Chicago or whatever big city nutsos. It’s just getting worse. I’m counting my blessings.
It’s much safer.
Without running hard. This is a solid six figure job.dwells40 Thanks this.
