LOL... yeah. Thanks for your input. Not knowing the profession and going off the title just went right over my head. I did get a chuckle out of that though.

Some of those commercial enforcement guys are very observant. I was stopped by a Wy HP just so he could look over my self issuing permit. We weren't on a first name basis but this guy would stop me every time I was OD and he happened to see me. While I was sitting in the troopers car, a truck was approaching us, the trooper took his attention off my permit and started studying the truck as it came closer. When the truck passed, I asked him what he was looking at. It was a load of hay, the trooper said he was counting how many bales were stacked on top of each other. to calculate in his mind if the trailer was over height.
I thought dang, you take your job just a little to serious. -

Of course, we had to go in. He checked everything and held us up because my rear steer’s insurance did not say commercial insurance. One of those piggyback bobtail haulers crosses the scale with 4 bobtails. Cop asks me how long did I think the bobtail hauler was. He goes outside and measures. Then he writes a ticket. While writing the ticket, a hotshot comes through dead heading, rolls across the scale. Red lighted. Driver comes in and DOT asks him where he is planning to pick up his next load because his empty weight was the max gross allowed in Colorado for his setup. I was amazed. Scalehouse seemingly stayed full, but never closed or even backed out on the road. Impressive!Gearjammin' Penguin, Feedman, Tall Mike and 4 others Thank this. -
Had a company out of Missouri?? Come through WV here. We have had construction on I-64 here for well over a year now. The lanes are restricted to 11’ only.
This company came west bound with a Caterpillar 773 rock truck, and failed to go the detour, which is 119 south out of Chareleston to 23 in Kentucky and back up to I-64. Couple hour detour.
Needless to say they made a mess when they blasted in to the concrete Jersey walls. Truck / trailer with load set here for nearly 2 weeks before they got repaired and ready to roll.
Friend who works for the Dept of highway said the fines were terrible….!Gearjammin' Penguin, cke, Feedman and 6 others Thank this. -
$4000 plus dollar citation?!?!?!?! Many of you say he got off easy, and you're probably right but to me that's a whole lot of money to pay out really for no reason. People never look at the trade off, costs to get permits versus the fines if caught. Seems like an easy choice there
CAXPT Thanks this. -
@OLDSKOOLERnWV Is that restriction still in effect?
cke, Oxbow, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 1 other person Thank this. -
10-4 yes Sir it is.
there’s actually 2 different areas here on I-64 in WV that are under construction. I just text my buddy with the wvdot to insure I’m giving you the correct info on the area between exits 15 and exit 20… this is where the 773 Caterpillar got hung up.
This area in the picture on west between exit 11 and exit 8 are restricted I know. I go around this area but I’m usually no more 10’-8” wide, the contractor doing the job on the bridge still says that my 10’-6” should not be in there because of the curve.
It’s fairly easy to get around this area unless it’s a super load with some width, weight, or length….

Ok, Ive got an annual so I hadn't checked yet, coming from KY on I-64, The detour is exit 1 right? Hadn't made up my mind if im gonna drop down into TN or straight across 64 from evansville..... Exit 1 turn right, then what?cke, CAXPT, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
Coming west I roll on into WV to exit 8, jump off and turn left back over the interstate. 152 / 527… go over the other side and down in to town to 8th Avenue… turn right on 8th Avenue and follow it about 2 miles to route 60. Turn right on route 60 and you will cross back under I-64 at exit 15. Stay on route 60 for about 15 miles and you can get back on at exit 28 in Milton, WV.
^^^^^^ this is if you’re not over 12’ wide, and not really long…70’-75’ you should be fine. I’m about 70’ and have no problem with my lowboy.
If you are really wide or long or superload in general, I would get off exit 193?? In Kentucky and run 23 south to 119 back over in to Charleston, WV. Some jump off exit 1 in WV and roll down 52.
That red line is on 9th Avenue… but YOU WANT 8th Avenue…
cke, CAXPT, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this.
