Hello all. I have a 1991 379 and Im tired of the downtime to r&r the OEM a/c parts and pieces. So, Im thinking about a mini split or a wall mount unit like huge outdoor forklifts and cranes would have. Ive spoken to a friend of mine that does commercial a/c's. He said he'd install it so I need all the input I can get from you. Make, model, btu's, links, how long and/or miles youve had it to get the best unit. Im looking at 10,000btu's, 120v. I already have the inverter, wires and such. Thank you in advance.

Search EPU and Mini Split on this site and you should find some good information.

When I was running the mini split off of the inverter for a brief time without a generator or truck AC, I felt like the alternator had trouble keeping up with it. Battery voltage dropped to like 12.4 or something while idling, where a microwave would be 12.8, or Instant Pot 13.4. I don't think that's a healthy voltage to constantly run and expect the batteries to stay charged over time. I would recommend getting a mini split for when you're stopped, but not as the dedicated primary system while running down the road. You might be able to run a generator while moving, but you would probably need to bypass the low oil shutoff. It seems like just trading one problem for another.

Get a 12v system. Red Dot is big in the off-road market.

I was going to suggest them. They actually made the bunk HVAC unit in my 98 FLD. I removed it to put something else in. Now I wish I would have cleaned it up and put it on the shelf. But I scrapped it
