Anyone know of an aftermarket setup that I can add to my Columbia to monitor real time MPG? I don't have on those fancy gauge cluster computers that the Century's and High end Columbia's have. I thought there might be a cable and software and/or PDA that can plug into my diagnostic port but have yet to find it.

There was a guy on XM radio asking the exact same question sunday night. THey did not know of any, but suggested contacting Freightliner. I would like to know that as well, it would be nice to have that info. We run a Freightliner FLD. If you find anything please let me know. -
Since those take their input from a variety of sources, you probebly won't find one that can be retrofitted to the truck for any kind of a reasonable price. Simplest thing to do is the oldest trick in the book. Just keep note of your miles and the gallons used and it will give you the answer on a daily or maybe every other day basis. The indash units aren't very accurate anyhow, showing 99.9 mpg or more when you are coasting. Just practice good fuel mileage driving techniques and monitor your gallons.miles and you'll have the info you need.

Oh yes, I know how to do this, but when the company you are leased on to uses a fuel solution program that never fills your truck it makes it kinda hard to figure it out.

But at what price. If it's too expensive, plus the cost of installation, then you have to consider if it's worth it. It may be nice info to have, but will there really be any payback by having it in place? I'm not knocking it, just questioning if it makes dollars and sense.

$715 and I can install it myself. Detroit has to flash it after I install it but there is no charge for it. Now, I am gonna pull my dash to see if a plug is present. This plug would allow me to retrofit a Century Class cluster into my Columbia. If it is there, then it would only cost me around two fitty.

We had one of those installed in our old FLD120. As I remember, there wasn't a "plug" but Detroit Diesel had to splice every wire into the wiring harness.

No no no....the plug is not for the Detroit unit, the plug is to see if I can do without the detroit unit and run a new instrument cluster in my truck.
