Washington DOT and UDOT also have IPhone Apps, and New Mexico, Oregon and Colorado have Mobile sites for your smart phone. All of these have chain law reports and road conditions state wide.

Hey, we were at the same place this morning. I stop at the Kla Mo Ya every weekend the last couple of months, last night was 2 times this week. Always grab a few beers and dinner there. I rolled south about 0800 this morning. Roads were good then.

Didn't get out of Stockton till around 0830...idiot 4 wheelers in Sac think you can drive the same with slick wet as on a sunny day....accidents everywhere!

Once clear of Bus 80 and the COOP (antelope) it was scoot boot time...and with 12k in the box...get out of the way Otter's on the run.

Stop to check with the chain checker (not to be confused with Chubby Checker...but equally chubby)...back up to speed. Rain gets harsher, clouds drop to road level...trying to snow....I think I saw a glimpse of the buildings at Whitmore CalTrans station...rounding the corner at Blue Canyon, Swifty decides to test his stopping abilities! (PG 13 thread...can't relate the words so clearly mouthed from my lips at Swifty.....oooo she was kinda cute....dumb but cute!)

There they are...the dreaded chain monkeys...at Nyack....whip on the chains 18 minutes, getting ready to climb back in cab when a driver walks up...desperate for help....turns out Prime has super singles, his trailer has duals...wouldn't you think he noticed that during the pre-trip?

Primate: "could I borrow just two chains...we don't have any for drag chains?"
    Otter: "Borrow...nope! Have...YES...I ain't waitin for you"!

I have never seen so many trucks with chains that did not fit or were hung without tightening them. Noisiest climb up Donner I have ever experienced!

Nyack, chains humming....up we go....Hwy 20 cut off, Cisco Grove...finally Kingvale.....BUT WHERE IS THE SNOW? IT SURE ISN'T ON THE HIGHWAY!

I FOUND IT....1/4 MILE EACH SIDE OF THE SUMMIT...THAT'S IT, RIGHT ON TOP!!!!:biggrin_25521:

BARE,WET, NO SLUSH, NO SNOW....BARE WET!!!!! 36 MILES OF HUMMING CHAINS!!!!:biggrin_25513:

The funniest part....the newly redecorated rest area, the first one above Colfax....CRST, CR England, Swift, Interstate, are hanging iron...the sign just said 10 miles to chain area....these mutton chops are out in the pouring rain...HANGING IRON!!!!!!! I ran 36 miles of wet pavement....they get to do 51!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_25523:

You guy complain about chaining HAHAHAHA come up here to AK for a few winters. Im so sick of it. Daily chaining and unchaining. In some areas for only couple miles. No one gives you reports, or adviserys, when you start slipn or spin out..then we put on chains.

Funny watching the train video, even more funnier is they still have that rotary plow in Roseville but its not been up the hill in years, I hear it still runs to.

How many times has anyone ever thrown iron in NM or UT for that matter?....

It's Cali....WA..and CO that are paranoid whenever the White sheyat falls....

I have forgotten how many times I ran in UT with blizzard conditions on the 15 or the 70 and UDOT just sent the plows to level off the snow.....:biggrin_25523:
