In terms of younger years it seems like once you get past 25, you pretty much have all options open to you as long as you have the experience too.

But there still is a lot for 21 year olds!

Well your opening post is ALL wrong. first off your supposed to say your asking this info for a friend! why ? don't know, that's just the way it usually goes. your 50 something ? don't you have any lies you can start off with? you just go right off script by telling the truth. it's going to be hard but maybe work can be found for you, but in the near future... get with the program will ya? :biggrin_2559:

You will not have any trouble. wish you well my friend. :biggrin_25525:

You will blend right in especially in an OTR company, when I started at 22 I stuck out and was often called out at shippers. " Hey kid let me see ur licences you shure your old enough to be driving." Lol

Dang! Go to bed after making that first post and now I've got three pages. Thanks fellas.

I had posted an earlier thread about relocating to Louisville. My wife landed a great job but I'll be going with nothing lined up. Have always wanted to drive professionally but too many things got in the way. I've done wrenchin' and sales work for a distributor of a certain red engine. All the kids are grown and I figure this might be the best time to follow the dream, as they say. Not interested in OTR because of my wife's situation but there should be plenty of regional work. I'd even enjoy dump work with all of the construction going on in the Louisville area. I have a friend who drives in Louisville and he tells me you can't find a decent dump for sale in the area as they've all been snatched up. If true, seems like a business opportunity, lol.

China...I have my eye on Truck America Training in Shepherdsville, KY. They're close, not outrageously expensive at $4,250, and appear to be straight shooters. Are you familiar with this outfit by any chance? Henderson Trucking is fairly close. Is there anything in particular that you can tell me about them?

Everyone, thanks again for the feedback. You folks have a great Forum here.

Being older is a definite advantage for a new driver. Easier to insure and companies look at you as far more stable and a long term employee.

I got back into trucking two years ago, at the age of 57. I just finished training a new driver getting into the game at the age of 60, and he wasn't the youngest in his class.

50's is almost the norm. With a clean driving record and steady work history just about anyone will hire you.

At your age l would highly recommend you find something else to do before you jump in a truck..this job will still be here waiting to abuse you ..it is to late for me but if I was 21 I would not be driving..

I was told the average age of a truck driver is somewhere in their 50's (53?).

I got companies around the bcs area wanting me to lease my truck on with them but I'm not 25 yet.... seems like the only way for me to operate is to get my own.. any advice on that?
