Do your homework!!! While there is great and useful information on this forum, a lot of it is opinion... So, read everything you can and then use your own best judgement on the carrier you select. Go to the internet and look those companies up, read about them.
When you get with the recruiter have a list of things you want to know. The things that are most important to you, such as, salary, benefits, hometime, equipment, and the list goes on. Do not be afraid to ask or that you'll offend someone. They sure won't be shy when they want information from you. If you don't ask what you need to know, shame on you. You would be surprised how many people new to the industry don't even think to ask how much they'll be making. You should be ok if you just do some research and follow what you think is the right thing to do.
Best of luck!
Ahhh the dreaded WERNER
