My first trip in a semi after school was from Detroit to Chicago. Had to load in downtown Chicago on a Friday night. After that trucking was easy.

I heard horror stories about LA, but people were civil to me. Course this was 2001.

True. I stayed in Palmdale. The landscape is pretty blah, but the In n Out burgers were great.

About 18 years ago I was coming up I95 north in VA when my right from Leaf spring broke on my 1993 Freightshaker FLD Condo cab, talk about a scary situation and a gangster lean! Truck was leaning worse than the leaning tower of Piza and squirelly as hell. Fun trip that was.

I've been to Chicago twice or three times now. We have a terminal in Lemont, but not counting those visits. It's out of the way. Twice or 3 times in the inner city. What's fun about my gig is when I go to a city, I have multiple stops in urban areas. So yeah, Melrose Park Chicago and working my way up to Milwaukee, then Minneapolis, another metropolitan paradise.. not my favorite part of the job. Good experience at least, driving around in the jungle. Good pay for a rookie too. Would definitely not be doing it if the pay wasn't where it's at.

Have not been to LA yet.

Side story, I'm from Texas, and when I went up to Minneapolis, they were testing their bran new tornado alarm. So I was in the middle of loading, and I hear that tornader alarm, and the nice ladies in shipping & receiving had a good laugh at my expense the way I reacted.

    IluvCATS and Lepton1 Thank this.
