Strange problem with compressor since it got cold in the midwest. When starting a cold engine compressor cycles between 110 and 120 psi. Governor is new as is the compressor and dryer. This happens only until engine warms up and gets back to normal 90- 120 psi. Any test I can perform before taking compressor head apart. 2006 ved 12

I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like the governor is cold and as the temp rises the set screw is expanding with the heat. If after the engine is up to temp and the pressure stabilizes you should be fine.

I dont believe its normal, just because it has not happened before. Also 10 psi drop in 20 seconds is definitely not normal, as well is a DOT violation. Thank you for your answer, but a new governor doesn't fix the problem. Sticking valves in the compressor head is my best guess. I hope I didnt spend $1800 for a garbage compressor sold by dealerships. Yes, I know its under warranty but its a hassle to deal with, and involves spending time and money.

it's fine what are worrying about nothings is wrong you don't drive while the engine is cold anyway you let it idle and warm up before you drive problem solved higher pressure is better anyway.

Noticed that problem occurs also when AC is on and truck is stationary. Any ideas if that has to do with fan solenoid.

Try replacing dessicant ... Air dryer cartridge. It's cheap.... Should be once a year anyway... Especially if you have a DPF truck.

If no luck, replace the governor ... Also very cheap.

I would not worry about it at all.

As long the air pressure stays within limits it's all good. You are watching science in action as the air heats up, moisture removed etc.

Don't go pulling stuff. That's expensive. Not without a hard failure somewhere in your system.
