The only problem I had with idle shutdown was in the winter. The engine would heat up the thermostat, making the computer think it was warmer out than it actually was.

The USX idle policy is that you are free to idle below 28 degrees and above 70 degrees. The idle shutdown on the trucks is due to the drivers, and there were a lot of them, that idled all the time regardless of outside temps. I cannot tell you how many trucks I would see idle all night at the Colton yard when it was 55 degrees. The reason we do not have APU's is that we do not keep the trucks long enough for them to pay for themselves. The trucks have bunk heaters to keep warm so AC is really the only issue. We stay very comfortable all the time.

If you weren't a student I would recommend LinkAmerica down in Lakeland . All our new trucks come equipped with APU and inverters. Those without APUs don't get harrased for idling when they are trying to sleep.

Guess most teams keep moving so it is not an issue... Thanks for all the good info.

anj8488....how do you like working for LinkAmerica.....they're looking for a driver out of my area, require 6 months experience......I guess they won't hire student graduates? Do you know if they have a "pet" policy? THX!
There are some bad reviews about LinkAmerica but they appear to be old.

They treat me well. You can search my name for my blog and it has a cpl other drivers on there to. They have changed drastically since their new ownership. I've never seen a pet policy in writing but have seen several drivers with dogs. Come check us out at 6 months if you want some true regional work.

Just turn on the cruise and hit accelerate button once. It will idle till it runs out of fuel!

Call breakdown and get the correct procedure for your particular truck model. They want you to do it the most economical way. Fuel costs alot of dollars.
