Get in that habit of only setting your tractor breaks, winter is a bad time to learn that habit.

Saratoga Wyoming has an awesome hobo hot springs...and some seriously anal dickwads in the loading area. That's why I asked if that's where the idiot was.

They freeze the shoes to the drum.
You get to crawl under with a beater and break them loose.
Assuming you noticed before wrecking your tire...

Your brake shoes can freeze to the drums. Got to get under with a hammer and hammer them til they bust loose. Not fun laying in the slush.

Typically you'll have moisture remaining on your brake drums, that will freeze and then your options are having to beat the drum to get them to release or having a small handheld torch to thaw them (indirectly not putting flame straight on them!). If your tractor brakes freeze you can typically break free with a little torque, but that horsepower isn't directly applied to the trailer.

DOT regulations mandate the reservoirs be a minimum volume. Don't know off the top of my head but I want to say its a factor of the volume of all the brake chambers on a truck or trailer. Tandem truck will have probably about 1/3 more volume than a trailer due to brakes on the steer axle. So when you charge the trailer reservoir, you're effectively sending nearly 2/3 the air in the primary/secondary reservoirs down to the trailer.

There was literally a doe in front of me to my right in a parking lot, guess I shouldn’t be surprised since it’s a small town about 18 miles off the interstate in the middle of nowhereville

I knew it had something to do with freezing up, but your explanation is the reason why I didn’t attempt to give my input on this, didn’t know that
