I have a 2006 volvo 670 with a isx400 st in it. With 670,000 mi's on it, it uses 2.5 gal of oil in 20,000 mi. Period.
No leaks . No oil drip out of tube. And no signs of blow/by, . Also ive drove other isx's and this one seems to be kind of holding back w/power.
Can somebody give me some sugestions on these issues and possible diagnoses and remedies...

So you drive 20,000 miles before you get an oil change? I mean if I'm not mistaken 12,000-14,000 miles is when you have to change it! That might be one of the reasons it's using oil!

    isx 400.

    that means 400 horses.

most horsepower ratings are around the 435 - 515 mark. so your gonna be weak in power.

your oil consumption could be going out the exhuast in the form of smoke. but your really not burning that much to even notice.

oil consumption could be anything. not just leaks and blowby. you've got piston rings and valve seals also.

For that many miles on that engine, that is not problem oil consumption.

When was the last time the overhead was done?

Some ISX's had problems with cam lobe wear, and this was easy to diagnose while doing the overhead, preferrably back when the engine was still under warranty. Doing it now may help your power some, and fuel mileage. But it still is a 400. It would not make any difference on oil consumption.
